what are the different ways to mount gauges in a 99? Autometer has a nifty column mount for the F**d, but there doesn't really seem to be any mounting solutions other than the pillar mount for our trucks. Anything on the horizion?

Don't expect anything new unless you make it. I find the homemade gauge mounts very interesting, everyone does it a little different.

I am thinking along that route. There is an unused space on the dash just to the right of the instrument cluster and right above the auto-trac selector buttons. I have seen fog light switches and other OEM options mounted there, but mine is currently empty. Perhaps something will fit there.

I was also thinking along these lines:

Use this LED indicator (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec47.shtml) mechanism mounted this way (http://www.hostdub.com/albums/Newt/GTIboostgauge2.sized.jpg) (on a GM instrument cluster, obviously http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif). Edit - if you look closely at the instrument gauge, you will see a boost indicator that is not stock. In this case, the owner drilled evenly spaced holes in the back panel and attached LEDs. Each LED fires at a specific PSI using the mechanism above. The owner then used the ruboff type of transfers to indicate boost, matching the OEM font. Pretty cool. Edited by: SuperTuscan

Man, that is cool!

I would like to do something like this for my 93 and 96 which are ungauged. I'm inspired by the guy's lack of skill and how well he did.

Why couldn't you apply this to PYRO, EBG, and tranny temp ?

those led's would be hard to miss.

I have a detailed writeup on how to do this to a VW instrument cluster. A lot of the concepts should work on our instrument clusters. QM, let me know if you want a copy, and perhaps we can adapt it to our vehicles.

I would like to have enough information to feel comfortable wiring my own guage together and putting it in the stock instrament cluster on the dash is a plus. If I do it, I will make it a post with enough pictures someone else could do something similiar on their truck.

One more question, what do you think the motora MPX4250 and the led's cost ?Edited by: quantum mechanic

Parts should run under 30.00 bucks.

I can't seem to send you a file using the forum. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you the word document (containing pictures, etc...).

Were there instructions on how to make the control box? I did't see it included.
