: Edge
bowtieboy 09-10-2004, 12:01 AM I have been reading about all these chips and decided that i will probaly go with the edge. How hard is it to take in and out of the truck to take it to the dealership? If i get the edge will i need to get my tranny done or can i run it on the lower levels and still be safe.I just want some more power and maybe some black smoke, lol.
P.S. if anyone has a used edge with attitude for a lb7 let me know.
Thanks
Blinky 09-10-2004, 12:12 AM Used it for 6 months on level 3 and sometimes level 4 (never level 5) before I had the tranny done.... Mike L. said the clutches were fine when he tore it apart....
So the general assumption on this board that "level 4 and defuel on all shifts with a stock tranny is safe" looks to be true.
I can take it out in about 5 min. max when I need to...
CB_Rocket 09-10-2004, 02:38 AM just do it, i run 3 or 4 most of the time, ill set it on 'crack mode' everyonce in a while if i get the itch but usually 4 is enough to get the job done. you can remove it in 2min max.
bowtieboy 09-10-2004, 09:48 AM Thanks for the replys, but what levels give what horsepower and is it enough to notie a big difference, such as getting pushed back into seat?
Thanks
ratlover 09-10-2004, 09:51 AM the first time if you are running the attitude and all that give yourself an hour or so just for routing the wires and trying to figure out were you want to mount it. After that 2 minutes.
JMO but bouncing around power levels is a bad idea. Get the ally trained for what you want to run and leave it there. 90hp added is the most I would run(and what I would set it at for DD) with defueling on all shifts. If your going to tow turn her down for towing.
The attitude is a good deal too since you should be running gauges anyway.
Edit: you can get a "refurbished" juice from John Kennedy for pretty cheap. Works like a regular juice and its got the same warantee but it cost lesshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gifEdited by: ratlover
BassinRVer 09-10-2004, 10:47 AM Bowtieboy, the Juice on our trucks has been refer to as "UNLEASING THE BEAST". I garrantee it will knock your socks off. Regular juice settings I believe are 40, 60, 75 and 90 HP. If I am wron I am not to far off. All of these guy that reponded above has the LB7. 01, 02, 03 and early model 04 have the LB7.Edited by: BassinRVer
I'm with Rat on the bouncing power levels around...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
The Ally doesn't seem to like that very much and IIRC, Edge says it takes about 200 miles of around town driving to get it set. That's stop and go stuff allowing the trans to learn your habits and accomodate the extra power.
It does seem to adapt a little quicker once you've been through the levels, but the defuel is much more noticeable on the upper levels and not very satisfying if you ask me. I tend to run mine on Level three since the defuel is not as noticeable between shifts and actually gives me a better seat of the pants feel than Level 4.
Just my $.02
Sea97Stroker 09-10-2004, 11:41 PM Does the computer or edge box defuel for you or do you let up on the pedal while it shifts.
Dazed and Confused
Blinky 09-11-2004, 12:05 AM Does the computer or edge box defuel for you or do you let up on the pedal while it shifts.
Dazed and Confused
The Juice/Attitude lets you set the defuel (All shift, 4-5 shift only, or no defuel all shifts) .....
baimpala 09-11-2004, 07:29 AM To add to what Blinky said; Once set, the Juice will do the defueling for you, you just 'set it and forget it.'

bowtieboy 09-11-2004, 11:17 AM How much is a refurbished complete edge system as compared to a new one?
Thanks
Check with the vendors here, I think Kennedy has them on the shelf...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

mudbug 09-14-2004, 11:20 PM 4x4Man,
Any problems with it? Are you boosting up with another brand or different version of the Edge?
Thanks,
Mudbug
4x4man 09-15-2004, 08:44 AM Mudbug, no problems with the Edge, just going with a different programmer and the wife told me one or the other...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
I am currently working with a member on the sale, but if it falls through and you are interested, I can shot you a PM if you want.

mudbug 09-15-2004, 07:09 PM 4x4Man,
Thanks. I'm still in the "considering mode" right now for performance upgrades and was wanting to know if you'd had problems with the Edge. Seems to be a number of 'refurbished' ones for sale via vendors and I'm just wondering why they needed to be refurbished to begin with.
Thanks, again.

ratlover 09-16-2004, 09:48 AM alot of units can get brought in because when people upgrade sometimes a vendor just swaps boxes
2 boxes have been sent back to edge and John Kennedy from me for this reason, they worked fine I just needed more powerhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif.
Sometimes the software upgrades require hardware changes, and occasionally you'll see a failure of one of the electronic components on the board.
Mostly I think it's just a software flash and ops check...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
MADDMAX 09-19-2004, 02:44 PM Can you raise the speed limiter with the Edge/*** combo?
Can you raise the speed limiter with the Edge/*** combo?
No, it's not a programmer, it's a module.
