I tow 12000Lb. trailer sometimes and I also notice a slip between 3rd and 4th. What kit is good and does a supporting vendor from this forum sell them. All suggestions would be great.

Chad, Lots of info on this topic, lots of choices to go with. Bottom line will depend on you, but some things to consider are what do you want to spend, what power do you have, what are your intentions, other then the obvious trailer pulling. Regardless of your choice, you can get any of the quality upgrades from vendors who support dieselplace.com

I recomend a Transgo shift kit with a heavyduty converter. I would recomend Eric Merchant to perform the work. He is more than worth the trip. I send everyone east of Chicago to him. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif All kidding aside, Eric is the Man.

I hate to tell you how many of my customers/members/ now friends have said this very thing, then they went hard-core on me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif I say overbuild it and you can never lose. As far as Transgo, simply the best kit out.

Transgo kit is by far the most popular upgrade. In researching the kit and talking with those who were directly involved in its development and in discussing the trans and upgrades with an Allison field engineer, the transgo kit fixes this trans. It addresses the weak spots and does it well. With any trans upgrade, like Mike L said, its a VERY good idea to address the converter as well. A few quality choices on the market. Beware of the units found in places that dont require a core. Its very likely that they are using 8.1 cores and those are different then those for a diesel. As noted above, overbuild it as much as you can afford. If you do get the bug down the road, your not gonna have to worry about the trans again.

Anywho, I have the transgo kit in addition to a converter and extra clutches. It shifts nice and easy when your not into it, in it hard with a bigger box and its still just clicking off the shifts no problem. IMO transgo is the kit ya want.

Sounds like your trans is cooked and if you are going inside you might as well drop a kit in there. A diagnossis may prove your trans is ok though.....whens the last time you replaced your spin filter? Whats the fluid look like? Eaten any red meat lately or poultry products from CT?(gota see if anybody is reading my craphttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Stern Smile.gif)

A drive north to eric would do ya well or if your a do it yourselfer its still pretty easy IMO to do it. The whole trans needs to come down and apart to do the transgo kit though is the only deal. The only realy difficult part about doing the upgrade is the fact that the ally is a heavy SOB and its a bit trick to remove and install especially if you dont have access to a pit or a lift. If you are going to do it on a weekend and need your truck back up and running for monday I would have all the clutches except for c5 sitting there handy and if the stockers are fine then you can return what you didnt use(hopefully) Also better have a bushing ready to replace your brass one. I bought my trany stuff from mike. Did I mention if you plan to do it yourself the allison is a heavyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Pig.gif?

It has 24000 miles on it and the fluid looks great. I dont know if its a slip or not its only when you hammer on it and that may just be how it is I dont know I am used to cat engines and 18 speeds. It is just like it picks up a little extra and I am a pessimist and assume the worst. This forum is great and you guys are very helpful I am sure I will have 1000 more questions.
