: Uneven acceleration rate

When I step on it (about 60% throttle) I get an uneven acceleration--under 2k rpm there's not much in the a$$-o-meter (it's acceptable, but...). When I hit 2k and above the thing takes off like a rocket. Then the shift, back down below 2k and we're goin' but I might as well be driving my dad's buick. Then at 2k it's again with the rocket effect. I'm expecting that there would be a smooth transition through the entire rpm range and that the more throttle the faster I'd cycle through the gears.

I like rocket. I want rocket.

I pulled the vacuum tube from the egr and noticed some improvement in the lower range, but the overall effect is now just more pronounced. I did a WOT test and it's about the same thing--it's the magic 2k when the afterburner kicks in.

I guess my question is, is this normal?

Also would like to know what is going on under the hood when doing a hard acceleration. It sounds like a second set of valves or something is kicking in. This doesn't contribute to the rocket effect as that happens when the "second set" is on or off, but the engine noise increases suddenly at high acceleration rates.

thanks!

Well I would say your experiencing turbo lag. The turbo is the pump that provides enough air to make the power, it takes a few seconds to go from 5000 to 30000 rpms and in that time the motor makes a lot of noise and doesn't really go anywhere. Then all at once........bang you go......

The extra noise during a hard romp might be the pilot injection turning off.....she gets "old fashion noisy" then. That doesn't happen until 2700 rpms or something...it's up there.

I would say that everything is normal......juice that baby and you will have more ass on the low end.

makes sense--on both points (2700 is about where the noise kicks on). I'm waiting for the AAPEX show here in Las Vegas to see if I can get a deal on a chip that someone doesn't want to take back to the shop with them!

Thanks!
