: Shudder while accelerating in overdrive
DRafalske 03-16-2007, 07:43 PM I've been noticing this for a couple weeks, but always chalked it up to bumpy road, wind, etc. My truck has a distinct driveline shudder while accelerating in 6th gear from 60-75mph. It is all stock, with 15,600 miles on the OD. Its a real hard to describe deal, kind of like something is slipping somewhere. No loss of power or CEL.
I'll be making an appointment to get it to the shop as soon as I can since its still under warranty, just wondering if anyone has any idea what it is or has experienced a similar problem.
Thanks!

cuffnup 03-16-2007, 07:46 PM mine kind of does that also...bugs me ...let me know what you find out
AKDoug 03-18-2007, 02:41 AM Mine was shuddering at 64 mph...regardless if I manually dropped it into 5th or if it was running in 6th.
Turned out to be a bad front u-joint on the rear drive shaft. Some knuckle head at the factory dropped one of the needle bearings inside the cap sideways and the proceeded to pount the whole thing together to get the clips in.
Maybe the same guy put your driveline together:D
BTW we have virtually identical trucks.
DRafalske 03-18-2007, 10:43 AM I haven't had the chance to get it to the dealer yet, just been too busy. It starts shaking about 60mph, and will continue until I let out of it, usually about 72-75mph, but it has to be in 6th gear, so I think something's funny with the tranny or torque converter. We'll see.
AKDoug, is your truck gray too? And how's the weather in Talkeetna? God, I miss Alaska!

moosecountry 03-18-2007, 11:15 AM Mine does it around 40ish mph. Feels like a manual tranny that you have in too high a gear (like when you try to start from a dead stop in 3rd instead of 1st). It goes away when you accelerate a little.

SteelMastiff 03-18-2007, 01:08 PM How cold is it where you are at? I've noticed the same thing when it is really cold outside; I just roll out of the throttle and ease back into it and it goes away!! I always try and allow my truck to idle long enough to get some heat into the trans. If your high idle kicks on it will also warm up your trans; you will not notice any stuttering when the trans is at running temp!! That is of course the weather has anything to do with your case? I know others have complained of the same thing in cold weather, so it's not just you!!

If you are asking me, it happens in all weather conditions, and even after the truck has been running for hours. So it isn't "cold" related.

Silver birch. Weather is good, but cold. -15F at night, warms up to 15F during the day. Clear as a bell.
Buzzman 03-18-2007, 05:07 PM My 06' does the same thing !!! seems to be in torque convertor lockup in 5th gear and excellerate 65-75 MPH and I really feel it !!!! I wasn't sure what to think !!! I even tried to blame on my 4" freeflowing exhaust but it only seems to do it I'm guessing in 5th gear !!! Strange !!! I hope somebody has a solution !!!!:o:
DRafalske 03-18-2007, 09:01 PM The weather here has been crazy as usual, high of almost 80 one day, and 35 the next. The problem shows itself every time I get on the freeway, no matter the temperature.
Feels like a manual tranny that you have in too high a gear
Thats actually a pretty good description of what mine does. I still need to make an appointment with the dealer. I'll let everyone know what they tell me.

Chris U 03-19-2007, 12:13 PM If it indeed is in the driveline it is one of 2 things.
- A U-Joint
- Smoked Clutch in the torque converter.
Pick your poison.
jtyler4570 03-19-2007, 02:48 PM Mine does it also but I thought it was because of my chip. If stock trucks are doing it also its got my mind wondering. I took my driveline off the other day just to check my u-joints because of a different noise but they all felt perfect. I hope its not the torque converter because it only does it when its locked. Keep us posted on what you guys find out.

Sounds like the tech at the dealer will have a blast. Its nice to have a warranty:cool:

duranate 03-19-2007, 05:03 PM funny, i was jumping on here to check some issues i have been having. one is a "shudder" in od. in exterme cold ( -10 or colder). slip it into 5th and it goes away.
Chris U 03-19-2007, 05:06 PM This is 'if' it is in the driveline, and not an injector, or something of that nature.
The more load the converter is put under, such as a numerically higher gear, like 5th or 6th in lock up, is when you would see the converter 'starting' to go south... The converter doesn't see the load in the lower gears when it locks the clutch....
DRafalske 03-19-2007, 09:18 PM Yeah, Chris, I get ya. I know it could be any number of things at this point. I should be able to get the truck in sometime this week, so I'll post whatever info I get.

kycobalt 04-13-2007, 11:05 AM I'm having this same issue, in 6th gear around 55-65 MPH. Seems to be more prominent in colder weather (40F or less). I roll off and back on a few times and it goes away. Anyone ever figure this out?
reaper05 04-13-2007, 11:41 AM Mine does it too. Hope we dont have to start a new club. Like the pump rubbers. ")
DMAXBOB 04-13-2007, 12:23 PM Mines been doing it for 50k now and no problems yet.
DMAXBOB
nj06dmax 04-13-2007, 06:26 PM mine does it too it starts at about 55-65 i thought maybe it was the wheels when i go faster it stops the same for slowing
ib4hoyt 04-14-2007, 12:07 PM mine does it too. 45 mph coming in to town in 6th gear or when it hit 65 mph when im speeding up to go on the interstate..
i think its in the transmision......anybody take one in for this?
Fuelman 04-14-2007, 12:19 PM Push the pedal down a little more to make it shift. The shutter is due to lack of RPM's in a tall gear.
