: Truck died couple of times
LBZrcks 09-08-2004, 11:13 PM Today when I was driving out of an enclosed parking garage, I went about 1/2 block, hit a red light, turned green accelerated it and it died.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Dunno why. Checked my fuel gauge and had lil over half a tank. put it in neutral really fast turned it over and it started right up. Then I put it in drive, pressed the peddle and it died. Put it in neutral one more time started it and started right up, then died after putting it into drive and pressing the peddle. So once again I put it in neutral started right up again, and deceided to let it idle in drive to get me out of the freaken' street. Let it idle me another half a block into another parking lot. In that other parking lot I tried to press the peddle and it died again. So started it in neutral tried to rev it and it rev'ed seemed like it wanted to die out though. Put it in drive and drove away.Any ideas. Only have 15,700 miles. Edited by: LBZrcks
dmaxalliTech 09-08-2004, 11:26 PM hmm
SES light on?
Fuel filter been changed recently?
LBZrcks 09-08-2004, 11:27 PM No ses light filter changed at around 10,000 miles, so about 5,000 miles ago.
dmaxalliTech 09-08-2004, 11:29 PM Hmmm. all of the sudden it got better and took right off huh? Thats very odd., did it stumble and die or just....?
LBZrcks 09-08-2004, 11:40 PM Just pretty much just pressed the peddle and died. Yes it did get better and took off. Even went on the freeway a little bit after it ran fine.
HD4fun 09-09-2004, 02:10 AM Happened once to me. Died on me 3 straight times in the middle of intersection, exactly when I would give it throttle. Opened the door to reset things and took off. Hasn't happened since. My money is on the juice.
On occassion, I will feel the truck seem to hesitate for a second when I give it some throttle from a stand-still. Money still on the juice.
luvthesmellofdiesel 09-09-2004, 02:32 PM I have had the same thing happen now 3 times since I put the VA box on my truck. I am not saying it's the VA box, but it didn't do it before. I had a Quad135 prior to the VA box, I didn't have it then, nor at stock.
Each time, it'll idle, but if you attempt to push the accelerator at all, it'll die, or nearly die and the injectors get REAL loud (pilot injection loud) with black smoke momentarily and we're talking 700rpm's here and of course will nearly jerk you out of your seat (w/ the seatbelt) if you're moving in gear when it does die. :-(
It's REALLY scary when it happens, as it always does when you're idling, like in a parking lot or at a light, trying to pull out into traffic. This is a serious safety problem IMHO, one that will likely cause me to toss the VA eventually and probably just go back to stock and/or live with the Quad surge. I have not seen this (yet) happen when driving at speed. With the ZF at speed, it would be REAL noticeable if the engine just decided to quit running...
I am highly suspect of the VA electrical connections since it plugs into both the big electrical connectors on top of the engine. I have dielectric grease in all 4 connectors and plastic ties holding everything securely. If I could only get it to happen regularly I would see what it is, but can't. By the time I get out of the truck, pop the hood, the problem is gone. And it only happens once in a blue moon, but often enough to make me think twice when pulling out into traffic... :-(
It could be something else, but there are no codes, and nothing else to diag that I am aware of.
Anyone else had a similar problem w/ the VA and/or any box which plugs into the bulk-head or engine-top connectors? Is there anything else this could be that could be checked?

Blinky 09-09-2004, 02:59 PM I had this same problem 3 weeks ago, it happened twice.... Sitting at a stop light and the truck just dies...
Changed the fuel filter that had 7,000 miles on it and it has not happened since... my money is on the fuel filter...
Now the "hiccup" (where the truck hesitates running for maybe a second or two) I've had that a couple of times as well.... Disconeccted the attitude and the juice, reconnected and it has not done it since...
Hope this helps.
dmaxsnoopy 09-09-2004, 06:16 PM I have been having the same problem. i have posted it a few times but no one has replied. except on mine when it died, i put it in neutral and when it started up i punched it in neutral to get the fuel flowing and it did fine after that. this happens always when i hit the gas from a stand still.
Bowtie Boy 09-09-2004, 06:18 PM Well I had my Edge w/*** replaced because of alot of freeky stuff that was happening. I know the techs at the dealer so having add-ons is not a big deal when I take it in. The tech idled it up w/the tech 2, and after 45 min at 1800 rpm it chugged, puffed white smoke and died. He then unplugged the edge and kept the truck for 2 more days they even ask to take it home on a 20-30 mile interstate trip and never had problems with the edge unhooked. I drove it5 for two more weeks with nothing aftermarket hooked uphttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
My truck did it the first time about 4-5 months after I installed the edge and got progressively worse over the next three weeks. I would just be driving and the intrument cluster would just freeze up even after shutting the key off. The attitude monitor would not turn off unless I unhooked the connectors under hood. Then it would restart again but it was like the edge was back feeding the truck power.
I do have to say when I called edge and explained what happened they told me they had never heard of that before but they where extremely prompt about sending out a replacement so I have nothing bad to say about their company. Since the new edge has been on, it hasn't puffed white smoke and died anymore but I do feel the hestitation off idle that some have complained of and it has died coming off idle once or twice. All in all it works good but maybe I just had an isolated prob.
LBZrcks 09-10-2004, 12:20 AM Yah, Thanks for all of your guys replys. I changed my fuel filter today, but I didn't have time to open it up and look at it. So far it has still been running fine. If it happens again then I'll call up Edge. Have a felling that it was from the juice aswell. Do you think that the same thing that caused the Juice "hard start" problem can be causing the problem of causing trucks to stall.(I never sent my juice in to have it upgraded for the "hard start" problem). On a side note what do you guys usually use to open filters, is there a special tool that helps keep shavings out when you open it, or opens it cleaner?
JEBar 09-10-2004, 05:01 AM had similar stalling over a year ago when running an early model Juice box ... sent it back to be reprogrammed and haven't had a problem in over 50,000 miles put on since then

lovethesmellofdiesel- Your problem is with the dielectric grease. I was specifically told NOT to use it when I installed mine. I have the 90/150 VA and use and tow with it all the time. The 90/150 is a better program than the 70/110 however.
luvthesmellofdiesel 09-10-2004, 09:12 AM 1822,
It did this two of the three times before I put the dielectric grease on it, and once after it. I read before that dielectric grease might help, but doesn't appear to. I don't think it makes it worse. Btw, I have the 90/150VA box.
Thanks,
Tim
bhowell 09-10-2004, 12:52 PM Same exact thing has happened to me 5 different times with 3 different versions of the Juice. Currently running the Hot w attitude. The last time I got tapped by the car behind me but no damage to either.

MaxFarmer 09-10-2004, 03:40 PM Mine has done this too. ONLY after I hit some bumps checking irrigation, etc... It causes my juice module to fall off the velcro mouting strips and then this happens. I just get out and 'cro it back up and it'll work fine. I blamed air in my MEGA for a long time before I figured out it was the juice.
Same thing though, would idle but as soon as you hit the pedal it would rev and choke and rev and choke....
Jason
I have the exact same problem too. Mine has dies three times now..starts back up, but will sometimes immediately die again once the throttle is pressed. Time to call Edge I guess!
