Has anyone had cylinder head problems with your Duramax? In shop two weeks for injectors, (3) replaced all 8. 96,000 miles. Upon completion motor had miss which lead to finding out the #1 cylinder valves were not closing. Dealer doesn't know why or what caused it. Was talk of engine replacement but now only cylinder head. Will this really work? Need help! GM customer service ask what they can do to help. Answer, give me that 300,000 mile motor you advertised. Thanks
Motor did seem to have a miss before injector replacement at idle. Wasn't sure at that time if it was because of the injectors. First diesel, starting to learn a lot.Edited by: toolman20

First I can recall hearing like you mention. Most likely mechanic error on reassembly. There has been a very few head gasket issues only.
I will go on to say most if not all with a head gasket issue were running performance mods.
Mac
And there were relatively few head gasket issues.

if the miss wasnt there before, then loooks like the dealer better tear it back apart and figger out what they messed up... Valves dont just not close for a reason....

Most diesels have NO room for valves to stay open. The piston will ram it shut. The head is flat as a pancake and the pistons clear the head by the thickness of the head gasket. That's close.

Of course if the valve is timed wrong or on some engines the wrong part # gasket is installed (don't know about Dmax though) the valve is bent and then guess what?

The valve timing wrong is a possiblity, but I would be curious as to how they messed that up changin injectors..
As for the headgasket being wrong, I would be hard pressed to think even that wouldnt do it as the difference in gaskets is just a few .001". And a diesel dont spin fast enough to have much overlap.. its hard to say for sure what happened to this one, I am interested in knowing though

When they decided to replace the head gasket on my '01, the shop foreman told the mechanice to order the gasket so as to get on it. He came back and said there are 3 different size gaskets. Have to crack it open to find which is the right thickness. I got worried at110k, before Chev promised 200k on the injectorsand bought my '04.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
The '01 was stock.
