: straight piped it yesterday
homer 09-08-2004, 05:32 PM I went and had a local shop cut out the muffler and replace with a straight pipe. It is still very quiet. I was hoping for it to be a little louder. It has a slight deep rumble that you can hear in cab w/out the radio on. Hard to tell if it helped out performance wise. I am planning on getting the edge soon and dont have the money for the full exhuast. Overall, happy for the price of it.
turbo43 09-09-2004, 08:50 AM If you want more noise take the cat off. But I see the problem you live in good old CA. Probably can't do that. I just installed the MBRP system with the cat delete pipe. It definetly sounds alot better. But I will say you payed a heck of alot less than I payed. But the cat will still muffle some of the sound. Good luck with the edge.

Roll down the windows and punch it hard up a steep hill then come back.
NorCal 2500HD 09-09-2004, 08:12 PM I think I read somwhere on here about a LB7 downpipe working on the LLY.... if it fits and you can pick one up pretty cheap go for it. It will make a huge difference.
Im running the MBRP system downpipe to tip with no cat or muffler and its pretty damn loud....its also juiced
If you do get rid of the cat you might get 2 coed and your check engine light on p0401 and p0404...egr related.....were both in Cali so we have all that emissions bs to deal with.....
GETSUM 09-09-2004, 11:56 PM I have a cali truck and have replaced my exhaust system with a magnaflow 4 inch from the turbo back. Can hear the turbo alot more and has a nice deep rumble when you get on it. And i have no codes that have poped up. And how are they going to check you there is no smog
Motivational 09-11-2004, 05:30 PM I want to take the cat off but, I really don't want to have a check engine light on. Who in CA has their cat off on the LLY? Do you have any check engine light on? I also took the muffler off and was suprised that it isn't much louder. I wish it was louder. Edited by: Motivational
NorCal 2500HD 09-13-2004, 02:08 AM my check engine lights goes on and off........
allie 09-13-2004, 08:26 AM Motivational,
I have a MBRP down pipe back and I have no codes. It is louder then stock and at idle it has a hissing sound. EGT is down and I have noticed I can pull the same hills and not have the fan kick on as often. I am happy.

Are you in California?

Yes I am.

mahalkita 09-15-2004, 10:34 PM Why most of you want a louder truck? Are you all young teenagers? GM/Isuzu/Bosch tried to design a truck engine which is powerful and quiet (thats what the pilot injection is for).
I want the truck to be as quiet as possible. If any aftermarket exhaust is louder if will not install it. Am I the only "crazy" guy or what is going on?
I just did the LB7 4" downpipe, the cat delete (but flanged just in case), and 4" maganaflow with 5" tip. Greatly increased the bottom end and is a little louder but sounds good. I am happy with it, no regrets. Oh yeah, i'm in california also. heheheEdited by: loco
blowinsmoke 09-16-2004, 10:25 AM If I wanted a louder truck I would of gotten a d*dge or a f*rd. There is nothing like the constant drone of a straight pipe after a long trip, as it resonates in your head for the next several hours.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
Z71 Grizzly 09-16-2004, 05:37 PM I've almost had a throbbing headache sometimes when I ride in my neighbors 6" stacked 24v. Solid drone.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
