Well, I got an opportunity to get my hands on a 2WD, long bed, Cummins powered, extended cab Dodge.


The mileage is at 247K miles, and it is a 1996.


First off, I searched a bit to see about some possible issues that I may encounter with this setup....and found a little info.


I am hoping that one of you may be able to clue my into what I need to look at in viewing this engine....what were some of the problems associated with this year?

I have talked with transporters who have the magic million miles, or close to it, on trucks like yours. If I remember correctly there was some kind of 'keyway' that needed staked (yours might have had it done as it was an early failure problem)and the lift pumps failed at appx. 150K intervals. Always hear of transmission issues from 'transporters' along with front end and brake issues. These, I gathered, were mostly expected maintainance issues.


Basically it should be a very reliable powerplant housed in a rough/rugged truck. Hope it gives you good service.
