: cruisecontrol
Norway 03-15-2007, 10:53 AM My cc has been unstabile for a while, I can very seldom engage it, and when it engage, it soon misses again. I have no other issues (runs great). I have checked grounds, brakepedal switch and fuses and read the faq's.
No ses light, but I had a garage to hook up a scanner, but He couldnt get contact with the vehicle?. Any ideas?
Turbine Doc 03-15-2007, 12:43 PM BAD ABS module, same problem on my Burb, no cruise control or communications with scan tool with ABS plugged in, may or may not be same as yours, but something to check out
Norway 03-16-2007, 05:52 PM thanks doc, this may be the issue, any tips on checking it?
chrisk1500 03-16-2007, 05:55 PM Bad PMD can cause same symptoms...
Norway 03-16-2007, 06:01 PM yes but I have no other issues, the cc has been malfunction for weeks now.
gmctd 03-16-2007, 07:10 PM How would you know that you have no other issues, if the scan-tool could not communicate with the PCM?
What Brand and model number scan-tool was used?
Try some of the suggestions - reading about it won't heal your truck, and you have no other information as needed to discount the suggestions.
F'rinstance, the scan-tool may have shown the c.c. switches to be intermittent - no scan = no data, eh?
Norway 03-21-2007, 12:26 PM I've got my codes read today with a tech 2 scanner. code p1216 and 1217 showed. We cleared the codes and only the p1216 came back. I dont know when the 1217 was stored.(I know I ran out of fuel 6 months ago maybe that did the code) The CC is not working at all now. BTW i have changed fuel filter and lift pump is good.
gmctd 03-21-2007, 02:11 PM Good - that's better information - the 1216 is response short, which may be from bubbles in the fuel, or reduced fuel supply.
Any IP-related DTC should prevent CC.
Connect a fuel pressure gage to the water-drain hose, see if the lift pump is
within spec - should be 3-4psi at idle
Norway 03-22-2007, 01:39 PM lift pump is good 7psi during glow cycle, and the flow looks good to. I dont have any "stumbling" but the code p1216 came back again...? I will drive it for a while and then read codes again, to see if the p1217 shows. Still no CC
gmctd 03-22-2007, 01:49 PM What was the original FSD resistor #?
And you can temporarily use a clear vinyl hose on the IP fuel return line, see if the fuel is aerated at that point.
This IP symptom should be addressed before looking at the cruise symptom.
DieselDufus 03-22-2007, 03:51 PM I am no diesel mechanic but...
My CC would not work for months. That was the only issue. Then it started stalling. Then it started racing the engine while sitting still for no apparent reason. Then is just died. Not one code was ever thrown.
I replaced the PMD with a kit from Heath and it is has not had a problem with CC or running for nearly 9 months.
The lack of CC may be a sign of things to come.
gmctd 03-22-2007, 04:52 PM Yes, I agree - it can happen that way -
For more info, Norway, you might check with Beta Machin - he's in your neck of the woods, over there.
nickg 03-22-2007, 10:46 PM On mine it was 2 broken wires on the multi-switch, first I had only "set", and no "resume", then the "set" failed, then my headlights went out,(over a 9month period) when I pulled the lower cover(under steering wheel) I found 3-4 broken wires the 2 smaller wires at the switch control the CC.
marinessgt1970 03-22-2007, 11:45 PM My cc works most of the time on my 92, but sometimes it won't it has its days, and i know its not my pmd, cuz i dont have one !:p: I think mine is maybe some sort of grounding problem, becuz the batt light comes on when it doesn't work... oh well, i never use it anyway
When my PMD went out, I had a p1216, but cc was still working.
gmctd 03-23-2007, 09:15 AM Depends on whether it occurs once, or continuously - only way you'd know it occured, or is occurring, is with a scanner, which also reads any events stored in History.
IP events, incl FSD\PMD problems, shut down cruise functions to prevent possibility of surging to full throttle while driver's attention is elsewhere.
Any single IP event is always stored in History
