: Got A New LMM Dmax On The Way...Or Do I? Is This Dealer Jerking Me Around?
RoadShark 03-15-2007, 12:10 AM My GMSD expires 4/21 so I don't have enough time to order a new truck. So, I've been looking at what's already out there - mostly hundreds of miles away. I found some on the search site, and one in particular I submitted to the fleet /Internet manager a local GMC dealer I've been in contact with. He's seems like an honest enough guy, and his dealership works with my credit union through a 'dealer direct' program. He said he talked to the dealer that truck went to, and it arrived up there last Friday.
I had asked about the "loyalty Cert" and he said he found one in my father's name that expires March 15th. He later said he was able to get it transfered to me. He was a little low on my trade-in, but I got him to raise it to where I hoped it'd be. Had a deal all worked out to get the truck I found up in Northern Cal. He said he'd send someone up there with something to swap with the other dealer & drive it back down here. Supposed to take place Thursday morning. Then I get a message this afternoon from him saying:
Please call me. I just received a call from the dealer up north. They are telling me that they went to check the vehicle since I was sending somebody to pick it up in the morning, and they could not find it. Upon further cheking they are telling me that the vehicle is not there yet.
I need to review our choices again. So either reply or call me on my cell 951-xxx-xxxx
Thanks

I talked to him on the phone, and it sounded like he was ticked at the other dealer. He said I have three options: Wait for that truck to arrive up there and try to get that dealer in N Cal to back date it to March 15th so that I can still get the loyalty rebate ($1,000). Or Look for another truck, or order one. Ordering is out due to the limited time. I told him about all the trucks I found (I was looking at the search listings as I was talking to him), and there's not a lot out there right now in reg cabs. Just three in all of CA, and a few in Oregon, NV, and AZ that have CA emissions. He said he'd look on Dealer World, but I don't understand how he can search there - there's no way to do seaches at Dealer World that I could see, and I've looked all over that site. But maybe he was referring to the GM search site (not Dealer World). So there it stands. Does he sound like he's on the up & up? He sounds more honest then most dealers I've talked to, and his motto is that he wants to build a good rep and win referrals. And I can't think of any angle he could possibly have here. Everything is set to go with this dealer if they can just get me a truck. What do you more dealer-experienced guys think? :)
Thanks. Sure was a big let down to get that message. :(
BlackHawkTDI 03-15-2007, 02:52 AM if you were over here on the east coast i would hook you up with my local dealers. they have quite a few LMM's on lot now and are priced fairly well from MSRP.
howard_m18 03-15-2007, 02:53 AM HI ROADSHARK & did he give you a vin#? Is this a "900" regular truck or what? What zip codes are we talking about? I can / will help you do a search. Will pm you my # as you see I'm up till 1 or later!! Howard
RoadShark 03-15-2007, 09:04 AM Thanks Howard & BH. Yeah it's a reg cab 900 D/A. I actually gave the dealer the vin # I got off the GM search site, it's 1GTHK24677E529188. I'm in 92407 (in the process of moving to 92582). Thanks!!
RoadShark 03-15-2007, 11:01 PM The saga continues.... I didn't hear from the dealer all day so I called him after work. Of the four other trucks out there, he said the one in Peoria, AZ won't do a straight across trade with him. One up in Paso Robles, CA he said the dealer up there wants to wait a few days & see if it sells. If not then they'll trade. And one up in Red Bluff, CA doesn't even have the truck yet. There was one in Oregon he said he didn't know about, so I gave him the vin # and he's going to check it out. That one's silver metallic. Maybe the closest I'll get to grey metallic in the time frame I have. The pickins are sure slim out here :)
GMC-2002-Dmax 03-16-2007, 05:01 PM Don't wait around,
I lost out on a 2007 Classic due to trying to get my dealer to swap for it and it didn;t work out.
The 0% for 60 months went out on 02/28 and I lost out on a chance to get the truck with the 0% financing.........
Go to the truck and get it yourself, or else you may lose it.
;)

Unfortunately the distances are a bit far for me right now, and no telling what those dealers would be like to deal with.
He got back to me after talking to the dealer in Medford, OR:
I just received a reply from the guy in Oregon. He would let us have it but he wants a vehicle from us, so far all oaky. The catch is that he wants the vehicle trucked up there , so this would involve an additional cost that I do not have room for.
Do you still want me to pursue this one and find out the cost of the vehicle transport?
And I asked him to find out the cost of shipment. Probably not viable though, if it means I'd have to pay an extra $1,000.
I am waiting for a couple of written quotes on the transport. I should know shortly or by am. tomorrow.
I just sent a message to another local dealer along with the same vin #'s to see if I get the same results or not, since I'm not sure if I'm getting taken for a ride.
Almost forgot - that truck that supposedly didn't arrive at the dealer up north yet... it just vanished from the vehicle locator listings this morning after being on there about 2 weeks....weird.
RoadShark 03-17-2007, 11:50 PM And I thought $1,000 would be too much to ship that one down from Orgeon - turns out it'd cost $2,000. Too bad, metallic silver woulda looked great. So he's going to follow up on another one in central CA.
In the meantime, I heard back from the other local dealer. This is the same fleet manager who, when I talked to her on the phone a few months ago, I had to tell her the option code for the Dmax's, and I had to tell her there's only one diesel when she asked me what size diesel. Here is her response after I emailed her the same vin #'s I sent to the 1st dealer:
WOW, you're right, that truck is not in California. I looked up the Vin numbers you emailed me and found the following.
Crossroads GMC
Golden Hills Auto Group
Dollar GMC
George Growney Motors, inc
I have no idea where these dealerships are located, and I checked with a couple of the 'old' GMC guys around our dealership and none of them had ever heard of any of these..
That was the extent of her response - she doesn't know where they are. Nice. Then she went on to talk about the crew cabs she has on her lot:
I have several 4WD 2500 Crew Cabs, long box, DuraMax Diesel engines. Of course these are fully loaded, leather, sunroof, Bose Speakers, lots of bells and whistles that you probally don't want. The Supplier price on these are about $4500 more than the ones I located above. I can fax you our invoices if you'd like to take a look at one.
The ones SHE located??? She didn't locate squat, I LOCATED THEM! Geesh! And I know EXACTLY where each of them is too! Ok, time to calm down. She did have one thing to say that I liked hearing:
There is a $1,000 Spring Bonus Cash Rebate on right now. At the time you purchase the truck we'll go onto GMC's web site and put the vin number of the one you're purchasing in the computer and it will tell us exactly what Rebates apply. Some of these Rebates change daily, well, it seems like it sometimes.
But then in the end, she low-balled my trade-in, same as the 1st dealer did, until I told him what Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds say. So like I did with the 1st dealer I sent her the Kelly Blue Book & Edmunds trade-in values for my trade.
What a ride. I have a feeling the 1st dealer is more likely to be the one who comes through.
BTW, when I responded, I told her exactly where those trucks are :D
GMC-2002-Dmax 03-18-2007, 08:54 AM Hop a plane to Oregon, buy the truck there and drive it home.
You are dealing with complete MORON's, they will waste your time, you will lose out on the truck and will be pizzed off.
You are and will have to do everything yourself, do not rely on dealerships that have idiots working for them, trust me, I found out the hard way.
If I can find a truck within 750 miles of me next time the 0%/60 months is available and can get it for the price I want I am on a plane the next day heading to get it.
You snooze, You lose..........;)
Good Luck.
:D
RoadShark 03-18-2007, 11:22 PM Thanks GMC-2002-Dmax, something to consider. I got a reply from that 2nd dealer:
(http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/member.php?u=29)WOW, i'm impressed. I could not find any information other than the name of the dealer. Good Job for you. Maybe you'll share your sources with me. Remember the used car manager has to see your trade
I thought all GM dealers knew about the GM vehicle locator. How the heck else could she do searches? I'm completely dumbfounded. Isn't that stuff part of dealer101? Hmmm... should I tell her? :)

Reineke 03-18-2007, 11:26 PM People put too much stock in what dealers actually DO know. They even have a hard time selling cars let alone the details that come with the car...
GMCJOE 03-18-2007, 11:38 PM Hey Roadshark, the diesels are starting to hit the SOuthern California area! Even the Crew cabs are coming in. A chevy dealer near me just got a new LTZ LMM CC in stock Friday. They are in Garden Grove.

Im keeping an eye out for you to see which dealerships have them. Ive got a few fleet managers who will call me as soon as more come in.

howard_m18 03-19-2007, 03:57 PM HI ROADSHARK & DON'T TELL HER OUR SECRETS! She should know this stuff anyways. Tells you something about how good & edjamacated she is at her job. FYI, I found the one that wasn't there yet? The (7E 529188) Sent you a PM with details. It got to CA on 3/15/22:01PM Howard

I was going to say the same thing,If she is employed by GM she should know what and how to tuse their system to locate a vehicle. It seems obvious she does not and I really would let her know she is inadequate to handle the job and let her know you will not be using her and walk away.
Phillip
RoadShark 03-19-2007, 11:05 PM Thanks guys, Joe & Howard. Hmmm... maybe I can still get my loyalty rebate that expired on the 15th. The first local dealer suggested that possibility earlier, afterall, they made me loose it by wasting time with them, well, atleast as far as they know :)

Ok, my lips will remain sealed :) She seems like a nice lady, but somehow I don't feel like she'd be all that effective. Maybe she uses 1970's methods of locating vehicles, whatever method they used before they started using the internet.
GMCJOE 03-20-2007, 03:29 AM Hey Roadshark!
A dealer near me in Buena Park (Simpson GMC) just got a few new Duramax LMMs in stock. The fleet manager I have been dealing with called me today with the news. They are fresh off the delivery truck as of yesterday.
The photos were at night, so sorry if they arent too great.
Here are some photos of the white SLE I took for you...

RoadShark 03-20-2007, 09:02 PM Thanks Joe!! Looks awesome, even though they were shot at night the pics still came out good. I bet you're ready to move as soon as a black CC rolls off the delivery truck :)
I haven't seen much change on the search site for weeks as far as reg cabs go, but I don't think the search site is 100% accurate, since some trucks don't show up on it for some reason, and sometimes some will disappear, and then reappear on it a few days later.

Farmer Dave 03-23-2007, 05:12 PM Thanks GMC Joe. You don't know how happy it makes me see a summit white GMC 2500HD cc SLE. I ordered it on Jan 22 and none of GMC dealers have any HD's in yet (Toronto Area) Chev HD's are coming in now but I'm a GMC man. So happy to see what it looked lite.
