Finally got some transmission (of course, 700r4) problems resolved, only to have some other problems http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Broken Heart.gif
You know you're having a bad day when your truck starts on fire

Discovered while visiting (or more specifically) leaving my grandparents house that the cap on my truck was bad which vapor locked it and caused it to die while idling. Repaired with a new $6.47 cap from the local auto parts store, and haven't had any problems since.
However, the placement of the spin-on filter in my '83 K5 is absolutely horrible, discovered that the lower bleed valve wasn't quite closed and so it leaked a small amount of diesel out. Not normally a problem, but its right over the starter so it leaked all over the starter and of course wires, when I had to crank for a while to purge air out of the system because it vapor locked I discovered my truck was smoking, because either the sparks about the commutor of the starter or the hot wires caused that bit of diesel to catch fire. Fortunately as I always have I keep a full fire extinguisher next to the 4WD shifter and quickly put it out. I think I need to clean off my engine so I can actually see when stuff is leaking...I've been meaning to powdercoat the valve covers anyways...
So having caught fire, I now need to replace the battery cable from the PS battery to the starter, any ideas how long that is?
The truck is sometimes difficult to start, and I know this will only get worse in the winter (I'm in Iowa currently). Aside from adding another battery to aid in starting, any chemicals I should add to the fuel to make starting easier? I suspect a few of the glow plugs are dead also so I'm planning on checking those out later in the week after I address the battery cable. Also I've heard that the 6.5 injectors are better for atomization than the 6.2, is there any truth to this? If I found a donor vehicle what (besides the injectors) would I need to pull?
