: How much power can you add without needing gauges?

I want to turn mine up a little, but I just don't like ANY permanent modifications. So, I'm against having to drill a hole in my exhaust manifold.

So how much can you do without having to worry about EGT, boost, or anything else?

But, keep in mind that my idea of running hard is a little different than most people's. Basically, I don't, at least not compared to what a lot of people do. I don't drag race, truck pull, or anything else, and I have enough sense not to try to use all the power when towing. I'm usually just regular, mild-mannered BrakeTorq, (of course, there's the occasional time when I get PO'd at some moron on the interstate, and floor it and fly by him, or hit it just long enough to smoke some punk that's acting like an idot, in his rice rocket with a 6" grapefruit cannon exhaust pipe, driving around making fart noises... you get the idea.) But most of the time I'm pretty easy on a truck.

So, I can probably get away with a little more than somebody from the "drive it like you stole it" crowd.

But what would be something fairly safe?

JMO, but if youre towing on a regular basis, get the pillar mount gauges so you know whats going on when driving, then you can play with the power - not sure what unit for power you have ?? or what type of engine, lb7 or lly - i believe you dont want to run more than 90hp on stock ally for lb7 and about 60hp on lly without killing the tranny, although mild bursts and what have are probably ok - i noticed that the egts shot up a little more when i got over about 90 hp

Got Juice?

You can EXCEED 1250F on a stock truck when towing max GCVW

Gauges are a necessity.... not a luxury.... cheap insurance on a 47K truck.

I have run stock loaded to max up a mountain pass in the fall and briefly brushed 1300F

Forgot to mention I have an lb7.

I really don't tow very often, and if I do its rarely going to be anything near max weight. The towng part is not what bothers me. And, I wasn't thinking of much over 90 HP, if that much. I have heard that adding 40 without gauges is pretty safe, so I was thinking that if everybody else can add 40, maybe I could get away with a 70 setting.

As far as what power addition to get... I'm still trying to figure that one out. Any suggestions??? I know the juice is probably the main one, and if I decide to use gauges, I guess getting it with the attitude would be one of the cheapest ways to go. But, with no gauges, I was thinking maybe the bully dog. I would really rather have a programmer (is that right?) so I can read codes and adjust for tire sizes.

you can get away with 60-90 over and be ok - if youre looking for a programmer, wait for the tts power loader, other than that, theres a lot of choices out there for adding power thats for sure

My expereince on my LB7 with exhaust and the like. I also have a reg cab truck so I may be a bit lighter.

Unloaded with the 90hp juice I dont think I ever got it above 1250. Even if you go out and run the 1/4 or do a bit of dragracing you dont really want to look at egts anywayhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif Different tunes run hotter or cooler han others.

Are you just worried about a dealer trip and the "why do you have a pyro"? Dont be IMO. JMO but a pyro is a good idea. boost is kinda pointless unless you are realy getting wild or needing to figure out boost launch psi. Attitude reads boost non invasivly though.

Loaded it can climb much quicker, I really wouldnt run around loaded without knowing what my egt's were. I have towed fairly light(a dakota on a large trailer) with my juice set at 125 driving harder and faster than I should have(do as I say not as I do) but I was watching egts and could cool my motor down via driving style.
