: Shaking after startup--2005 LLY
Grouper Genius 03-14-2007, 03:13 PM 3-4 times this past week when I start the truck it feels like a gasser V-8 missing 3 plugs. Feels like a paint shaker. Just did an oil, fuel, air filter change at 50K miles. That was 1K miles ago.
Anybody else out there have a problem like that? BTW, it's odd that a friend of mine with a 2006 Dodge Cummins is doing the same thing. Maybe fuel related.
DURAtotheMAX 03-14-2007, 03:28 PM how cold is it outside?
Grouper Genius 03-14-2007, 03:29 PM how cold is it outside?
I'm in Central Florida. It's been in the mid 70 to lower 80.
nosliw 03-14-2007, 06:43 PM i guess you and your buddy fill up at the same station? could be a bad batch of go-juice.
Grouper Genius 03-14-2007, 07:16 PM When I left work...all fine. I stopped and fueled up...when I started the truck, it did it again. When I gave it fuel to go, it sounded like one of them older loud-a** Cummins motors. A loud distinctive knock. Does 51,000 miles seem to new to have injector failures?
I should say too that I have Superchips programmer, but I always leave it in tow-mode.

Remove the programmer and see if the problems goes away.
ZR1160 03-14-2007, 09:03 PM Could be a misfire due the problems with the injector harness on cyclinders #2 or#7
Tutts 03-14-2007, 09:13 PM I am thinking along the lines of zr1160. Sounds like a harness problem to me. Any codes?
Grouper Genius 03-14-2007, 11:13 PM Remove the programmer and see if the problems goes away.
Removed now and I'll see how it does tomorrow. Crappy thing is everytime I program it, it automatically clears all DTC's.

It may very well be a harness problem, but taking the programmer off is a good start to trouble shooting. If the problems continues, try the quick harness fix mentioned HERE. (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142114)

Thanks skoryaro2. That is a great DIY thread. So far with the settings back to stock this morning, no problems.
Grouper Genius 03-26-2007, 11:41 AM Well, the shaking still persists now. Been getting more frequent. So this morning I decided to try the fix. On taking off the plug on #2, I broke the retainer and it's lost in Duramax-zone. I went ahead and shoved an awl through the side like the pictures show, and it seems to have cured a little. I used some small zip ties to hold it in for now. I'm skeered to got at #7 and break that one too.
txguppy 03-26-2007, 05:46 PM Uh, check your fuel receipt and make sure you filled-up with diesel, not gas.
:)

Har de har. This started about 5 fills ago. I think it would have died by now, don't you?
lt500 03-27-2007, 11:30 AM Also try looking at the wiring harness right by the ficm which will be if standing in front of veh looking at engine on left hand side shiney box the harness comes out and is zip tied to a bracket and i,ve seen rub through,s against the bracket causing your concern.

Thanks, just checked it and I don't see any visual damage. I even undid the zip tie to check all around it.
STPETEBLUE 03-27-2007, 02:35 PM Mine did the same thing a week ago. Drove it in the morning, all was well. Started it that afternoon, sounded and felt like it was running on 7 cylinders. Drove it down the road aways and it smoothed out. Hasn't done it since. It is in for service now and they replaced the injector harness due to that complaint, even though they couldn't duplicate it and there were no codes.
We'll see if it happens again.

i didnt think you would because when you have a inj driver harness failure like a rub through it will shut the bank of injectors in the ralated circuit off and put it in limp home mode for i believe three ign cycles. im thinking you either have a low side fuel leak.you probably wont see fuel it will just loose vac usually at the fuel filter you might try removing it and making sure the orings are ok. on the bleeder plug also other than that you very well might have an injector issue hope its under warranty.
lt500 03-27-2007, 02:56 PM on the harness problem i meant usually put it in limp home mode try when its running good moving the harness around the ficm and at each injector see if it starts missing "be careful if you do id hate for someone to get hurt on account of me"

No warranty. I only had the 3/36K and theres 52K now. Sorry if I'm typing slow, but it's hard with only 1 finger and a thumb on my right hand.....kidding.
lt500 03-28-2007, 02:32 PM actually you should have a 5yr 100,000 mile warranty on the engine which includes inj wiring harness i believe you should call your dealer and ask if they,r cool they should take care of ya assuming they can duplicate your concern.
lt500 03-28-2007, 02:35 PM oops forgot to mention there is a $100.00 deductable on the 5yr 100,000 engine warranty

I'm cool with paying the $100 deductable. My concern is now I have broken the wiring retainer on #2. I'm sure they will ask me about that as well as the 2 holes I awled into the connector. Maybe if I give the service advisor a little tip, he might overlook that.
