I am signing the papers in my first truck since high school... i have a 93 250 w/a 7.3 idi w/turbo.

i've been wanting a 6.0 psd ever since i drove one last year.

i guess my question is... with his 04 6.0 are most of the problems worked out yet? i have heard some bad things, and i am die hard ford. needless to say i do not want to make a mistake... Also i drive really really hardhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

i wanted a 5-spd like my ol one but they wont sell me one...they say the torqueshift is stronger than a manual...i have trouble believing that. i believe i will ruin an automatic in less than 1yr the way i drive.

i would like to hear if anyone has had any common problems with the new 6.0 or the torqueshift.

also, which chip is the best one for the long run?

i am really enjoying the forumhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Colvins, yes the 6.0L has been experience a very high number of problems, as well as Dealer Buy Backs. However, this site is probably not the best place to get feed back on Ford trucks. Visit www.thedieselstop.com (http://www.thedieselstop.com) and browse the 6.0L forum. There is alot of good information on that sight about these trucks. You might not like what you read, but still you should be well informed before making a $35-40K purchase.

As far as chips are concerned, I would not even consider one until the warranty ends. It seems as though the engine has enough problems running stock, and adding a chip is asking for trouble. Matter of fact, because of the high numbers of warranty claims, Ford is on a rampage looking for any possible reason to deny warranty claims. You will be your own warranty provider should you chip the truck.

To see the true strength of engines, you need to look at the guys who take it to the extreme, and need every bit of hp/torque they can get. Take a look at the competition (drag and pulling) circuits and you will find that Dodge's (Cummins) heavily dominate the circuit with Chevy/GMC (Duramax) rapidly rising. Ford PSD is almost non existent in these events. The motor just cant generate the hp/torque that the Cummins and Duramax can without spending major $$$.

But don't let this bother you because, 95% of all Ford 6.0 are still on the road

and the other 5% made it home. jk :)Edited by: djp9747

My friend has an 04 w/ a superchip. The truck is running on the 150 hp setting and hits low 90's in the quarter mile. The transmission is shifting hard though. Really hard. Lots off power stock though. Really runs well.

i have had the truck for 4 days now and it has 1200 miles on it.. it is already in the shop for the tranny. i hate autos...

tomball ford ran the diag, and it threw 4 codes for the torquesh*t... 3 solenoid codes and 1 other wierd code..

my ol 94 seems to be more reliable than this.

the truck started shifting really hard under slow driving cond. and than the tow/haul light started flashing in the dash.

needless to say i was pissed, i mean 1200 miles? c'mon

i hope this is not and indication of how my new truck will treat me...

A guy that I used to work with traded off his cummins for a 6.0 and it's been in the shop 3 times for the tranny. I wish that I would have read this when you posted it. There is no way that the torquesh!t is better than the manual tranny. The stealer just wants more of your money or don't want to order one.

I have to disagree I have made several 1/8 th mile passes on my torqshift, with the edge juice with attitude display, I have even stacked a predator with the edge with nothing but go from the tranny. MY tranny has shifted great from day 1 after the install.Several 2000 rpm 4x4 launches, 1.82 60 ft. times consistently. If your truck is throwing codes for a tranny solenoid it does not mean you trashed your tranny, have ford replace the solenoid and go on with it. How are you going to come to a Chevy forum and ask about a a FORD? YEs the guys that frequent this forum are great, but do you not thinkn that you would get a biased opionion? And to the guy that stated he buddy has a 6.0L with a superchips on it and it runs 90s in the quarter, you need to get the story straight, I runs 9.0s in the 1/8th mile. Jeeeee I wonder why so many people think people who drive FORDs are idiots

READ THE POST 03250stroke!

He's talking about speed in mph not time.

Almost all manuals are stronger than automatics.

Dmaxfan....... I think, although I may be wayy off, that you were saying that Manuals are stronger in the sense that, the manual has less static drag and puts more power to the gound.

Stright gear maybe a chance...... but once you get really heavy..it's gotta be an auto.

No, you are right, and that is one point that I meant. Don't get me wrong, I love automatics, but I also think that a manual will last longer if you were to put one side by side to an automatic-less moving parts and more simple......but that is just my opinion.

I used to think that way as well. Problem was ..... I was thinking http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

The auto's last much longer $ for $. Auto's know when to shift and how hard ... every time. Auto's maintain the driveline much longer than the stick. The tires, the rears, the power dividers, splines and yokes last a lot longer with the auto's. I think it has something to do with that mutiplier..er.. the torque converter ability to apply force vs the sticks direct abrupt force. Well, that and the fact that all of the "big" stuff runs mostly on torque and not hp. Actually, when you get really big......it's all electric drive. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
