Hey there,
I just got a call tonite from one of my neighbors picking my brain about a truck that he has. To start off the truck is a 1992 2500 Chevy 4X4 with a 6.5 in it and a new auto trans. Aprox. 100,000 on the truck (farm truck) He was hauling cattle with it when the engine started making a "loud noise" so he park it and unhooked the trailer. He then took it to a local shop and they said that a crank bearing went. He wanted to put a new GM replacement engine in the truck but the shop was going to charge him $8500 for enigne and labor. I am going to his place tomorrow to take a look at the truck for the first time so any helpful advice on what to look for exactly? I know that the harmonic balancers on some of these engines were not the best so could that be the culprit? Would it be benificial to go through the entire bottom end or find a replacement engine? He doesnt want to just junk the truck because he just put a rebuilt trans in it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
