A while ago I saw a post concerning super low mpg while under non-towing standard driving use. Whats was the result? Was it injectors?

I remember seeing something about an injector flush or something and then some small improvement for a short time. I cant find the thread.

I got 9 mpg on my last 2 tanks 50/50 city driving/hwy driving. I usually get 16-17.

Again I must ask for "helpfull" replies only.

As I seem to have a few people who are stocking me with terrorist like replies.

The hot temps in SoCal might be to blame. Hot in Long Beach?

PC, when you find out......please let me know. Neither my 2002 nor my 2003 has gotten any kind'a good milage. Usually I'm around 11 or so. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Just makes me want to http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw%20Up.gif.

I took mine to the dealer the other day for a check-up for what I considered poor mileage(12-14 mpg). I don't feel so bad now!

The mechanic and the Tech2 said everything was healthy. Only charged me $68.50 (1.3hrs shop time). Truck has 86,000+ miles.

Have you had it checked out at a dealer yet?

Good Luck and I hope you find an answer soon.Edited by: Grey Ghost

Air Conditioning running? Driving habbits? Poor fuel quality? Fill up at someplace different than usual?

New ac delco filter and I change things before they are due.

I will add that to the growing list when I go to the dealer.

If all looks good take a look at the Coolant temp sensor.I have seen some read colder then actual and this will cause the injector to be richened...

Join the club PC. Mines at the dealer right now for rough idle and poor mileage. I don't expect them to find anything. Makes me sick I paid this much for the truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

PC,

Man, I was looking at your sig and a couple of things jump out. First what is a snug top carpet kit and where do you have this inverter, coffee maker, etc. Surely you aren't carrying a truck camper and wondering about mileage...are you? I'm just not familiar with your setup. The other thing are the H2 wheels and tires. That is some serious additional weight not to mention rotating mass. I know the popular thought is taller tires=lessRPMs=better mpg, but that may not be as the increased rolling resistence and weight may not only offset the gain from less RPMs, but degrade your mileage. Anyways, that's what I observed from what I see and what you have said. Hope you find some clues or better yet the reason for your poor fuel mileage.

I don't think the tires would affect only the last two tanks. One thought that still jumps out at me is the poor fuel quality. I filled up at a no name place because I had to. Truck blew a puff of black smoke at start up. Then alright till next start. Couldn't say about mpg because I was towing.

I don't have a spread sheet but I seem to be getting 15mpg empty, 12.7mpg with camper and 10.7mpg with camper towing the boat. I read on other threads on this subject that 1800-2000 rpm is the optimum milage range which I tried and I didn't get any better. For what it's worth I used to get around 8-9mpg with my previous crewcab duallys powered by the trusty 454

PC I know how you feel. I have a CC SB 4x4 with 285s. My highway is good at 18.6 but city is 13.5 and with my toyhauler attached it drops to 7.6 on the highway. Just seems like an 11mpg drop towing is a bit much. Let us know what you find out it may save some of us a trip to the dealer.

Can anyone remember this post and the issue it was tied to?
I seem to remember injector flushing?

Is the computer very accurate? Does it match your hand calculations?
