the 6.2 came from a 83 burb, that had only a temp light so I bought a new sender unit and fitted. the gauge is from the old 5.7 gasser. I have fitted a new rad. all the water ways were flushed all freeze plugs renewed and a new stat fitted.

I regularly drive a 15 mile trip along a route that sees me doing 7 miles at about 60/65mph followed by 7 miles at around 40mph with these the opposite way around on the return journey.

after about 5 miles I'll see the temp gauge get up too the mark below the red but never gets higher. then once I get onto the slower roads it'll come down a little but still be well above the half gauge that I used to get from the gasser. on the return journey I get to the end of the slow section with just over half gauge and within a couple of higher speed miles I'm up to that dreaded mark below the red again.
I've driven in the city traffic and not got above half gauge.
it doesn't seam too hot and hasn't used a drop of water in the month I've had it on the road.
today the weather was warmer (able to work outside in just a t-shirt) and I was on the return journey and in a rush, I was expecting to see it hit the red on the fast bit especially as I was pushing it up to 70+ but it actually ran cooler, staying only just over half gauge.

I've watched the temp gauge in the wifes burb and I know that never gets too high but not sure about the stat in that.

is it normal for them to run hotter than a gasser? could it be the gauge is different from a gasser one??

any ideas?????????

once the warmer weather hits I've got a 27ft caravan to tow and really don't want to cook the 6.2

cheers

yeah did think of that but just wondered if there was a difference between a gasser gauge and a clanker gauge?

did a search and found a thread in which it said they often run fairly hot especially with a new stat so I might be worrying over nothing but running 6.2's fetch about £450 ($900ish) here so can't afford to break to many

I removed the electric sender and installed a mechanical for just that reason it seemed that it always read hot and I like to know for sure. there is no difference between a gauge for a gasser and a burner so just go to the auto parts depo and get the 17 dollar autometer gauge kit and git-r-dun

17dollar one would be good but in the uk it's gonna be about £20 = approx $40, I so love living in this tax infested country:(
