i've just got the magnaflow exhast in, and i'm attempting to remove the stock exhaust and can't seem to get it off. i'm wondering what the best way to remove it is. i'm not wanting to cut it.

Here's something I posted a while back about how I got mine off. I had to bring it forward over the axle, with a little twisting and wrasslin'.

Good Luck,
Dennis

Well, I got my system today. My father-in-law and his wife and her mother (93 years old) were over for dinner, so I had to wait until they left before I started putting it on. Then one of the boys was sick, so I finally got started at 9:00 p.m.

Working without light outside, I managed to get everything together, get under the truck and unbolt the old exhaust and pull it off the hangars in about a half hour. I didn't have any trouble with getting the hangars off the old exhaust. I just used a medium length screwdriver and a little controlled leverage and they came right off.

Next I wrestled with the old exhaust for about another half hour, and I did manage to get it off in one piece. I thought I was going to be able to get it by just wrestlin' with it Steve Irwin style. I didn't want to cut it, and it was really close.

Well, I broke down and had to drag the floor jack up out of the basement and jacked up the passenger side of the truck about 4 inches by the frame. A little more wrestling, one threat of bodily damage, and out she came. I didn't even use any foul language, which I have been highly trained in (I have nearly completed my doctoral thesis in foul language, check my profile, 13 years in the Navy). Well, okay, I did have to call it one bad name, but that was part of the threat of bodily damage, so it didn't really count.

Next I started putting on the pieces to the MBRP exhaust, and it fit very well. Now, mind you, I'm still working without light, and it's right about 10 p.m. now. Well, I got 'er all hooked up and tightened down in about 30 minutes or so. Pretty smooth overall. I haven't driven it around yet because in the morning I want to give it another once over to make sure I didn't forget something big working in nearly complete darkness.

Anyhow, in well under 2 hours, I've got a new exhaust on this thing.

First thoughts: This thing is huge. I know how big 4" is, but this thing just seems huge. When I put my borla exhaust on my Impala I thought to myself "Gee, this thing isn't much bigger than my stock exhaust" and that thing performed great, sounded great, gave me better ETs on the track, and was just plain great, but this thing is HUGE. And to think I was going to go 5". I think this will be fine. The last truck had a Flowmaster 3" American Thunder on it, and it seemed pretty big when I put it on. Did I mention this exhaust is HUGE?

I started it up and ran it in the driveway, sounds pretty good. Nice low rumble, and lights up pretty good when you blip the throttle. This is a quality product, and very easy to install. The borla I put on the Impala took a little longer in the daylight, but that is a dual exhaust and that thing is a LOT lower than the truck. I couldn't get my melon under the side of that thing without jacking it up.

I miss the garage I had in Washington. Newport is a great town, but they just don't understand the need to have a garage. Of course the house we're in was built in 1880, so I guess I can let that one slide.

Bottom line. If you are looking for a great exhaust, this is it. I can't wait to start really adding stuff on and seeing what this baby will do. I guess I'd better quit for the evening, I'm sure the neighbors were already wondering what the h*ll was going on in the dark under my truck.

Unbolt at flange WD40 or PBlaster the rubber mounts and pry off the pins through the rubber hangers.

Remove right shock completely or just pull off lower mount and tie out of the way.

Jack at the bumper until right rear tire is nearly off the ground. Twist turn the tailpipe forward over the rear axle.

Remove intermediate pipe connected to the down pipe at V-clamp.

I was able to get mine off without taking the shock off, so it is possible, but probably easier. I usually take the laziest route possible.

finally got it off. had to jack the truck up from the back and then side, so pretty much the rear and front passenger tires were off the ground... hehehe. sounds great... louder than i wanted it, but definitely nice.

Wow, up on two wheels already, huh? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Did you notice that things are quieter with the Tonneau cover on? I did when I put the Retrax on, so I think my exhaust is louder outside the truck than inside.
