Okay Dodge guys,

Sitting here kicking around the idea of twin turbos....any idea what the (theoretical/realworld) maximum pressure the intercooler, hoses/clamps can take before bye-bye?

I've read about guys running 100psi of boost and in some cases making provisions to run that high with the engine build-up, i.e. head studs, o-rings. But I have not found any information regarding any concern for the intercooler.

How about the Duramax--how much could that intercooler take? The LLY has plastic tank ends I believe.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

I don't know the pressures they were originally designed for. I had a LB7 IC out and it's one beefy all aluminum IC. The Dodge IC is similar.

Plastic ends does not sound good, especially after a few years of heat and cold.Edited by: hoot

i meet a guy with a 12v cummins running twins pushing 80psi with stock intercooler and some of the stock piping

80 psi seems to be about it for a stock 12v intercooler. At that level though you can reach around 700hp, depending on ambient air quality.

Like I said, I've heard of guys running 100psi or better, but I don't know if that was a factory stock intercooler.

The reason I ask is because a co-worker is considering going with twins and we were discussing boost. We've heard of people addressing the possibility of lifting the head, but not much of anything concerning the intercooler aside from heavier hose/clamps.

Interesting...

It's all hypothetical to me...his truck will probably never see 80psi.

You'll need some good boots and clamps. Anything over 50 psi and you should o-ring the head. Piers has some good ones. But in most cases the stock intercooler will work unless you are trying to be the baddest in the land. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

anything close to 80 psi and he should include a quick connect fitting in the intercooler somewhere in case he gets a flat tire, pop on the hose and spool that bad boy up and fill the tire. gr8 for those who need to let the air out a bit in the soft stuff or on the beech.
