: Hot+2 without lift pump
4WARNED 03-12-2007, 11:34 AM I have the original LLY Hot +2 290hp tuner and have been driving it on 240hp tune #3 without a lift pump can I or will it hurt if I run the 290hp extreme tune?
I dont know if I am running out of fuel now or not.....it smokes pretty good but Im not sure if it gets enough fuel or not.
Can anyone give me some input?
The Neens 03-12-2007, 11:45 AM Since you've got the shim kit already, going to the next level won't cause it to fuel limp...You should definitely install a lift pump to help out the factory pump...
4WARNED 03-12-2007, 12:12 PM Thanks, yeah the 125hp tune on my old Edge juice w/attitude would throw the P1093 code before the shim kit!
Ill load up the 290 tune and see what she does.
The Neens 03-12-2007, 12:35 PM I ran that programmer last Summer, pretty damn fast...Should be faster with lift pump help...Have you thought about the PPE boost controller?
4WARNED 03-12-2007, 12:58 PM Yeah but I plan on upgrading to the new 350hp tune and supposedly it adds alot of boost so the boost controller wont make that much difference(on a stock turbo).
I was running a boost stick on the 240hp tune but it didnt seem right for some reason. Maybe too much boost? Or too many mixed signals? I just want to run one programmer and get the biggest bang and most power for my dollar.
The Neens 03-12-2007, 01:14 PM I agree...The updated tune seems to be much better...From what other guys are saying, it appears to be the way to go...
Kennedy 03-12-2007, 01:35 PM Every Dmax should have a lift pump. I've tested numerous times with and w/o a lift pump at 450-500RWHP and not seen much if any gain in performance. On the road things change. Inertia/g force is factored in and the loads increase dramatically. Adding lift supply helps keep your power production more consistent and tends to improve responsiveness.
4WARNED 03-12-2007, 02:25 PM Thanks John, I do plan to add one. But for now I want to play around with the 290hp tune just on the stock fuel system. Im sure the power will be much better once I add a pump though.
What do you think about PPE tunes and your boost stick? Too much boost?
Kennedy 03-12-2007, 02:57 PM A properly written tune shouldn't need crutches like boost foolers.
The Neens 03-12-2007, 03:55 PM 4WARNED- I used the PPE boost controller as a crutch for awhile before I found out about EFI Live...It worked just fine...
Dan@PPE 03-13-2007, 02:04 AM If you have a 9/10 tune unit it will have boost build into the upper tunes...
Dan
4WARNED 03-13-2007, 09:22 AM So the tuner I have now does not add any boost?
But if I upgrade to the new 350hp tune it will????
Dan@PPE 03-14-2007, 12:17 AM How many tunes does your unit have?
70 Z UC 03-18-2007, 09:57 PM When I drag race my LBZ, I do not get any fuel rail codes on the 300hp setting. I just pulled this weekend on the 300hp setting, and threw a P0087 (Low fuel rail PSI) code. Not sure of the diff., but I would think the drag race would pull a code before a pull.
4WARNED 03-27-2007, 03:12 PM How many tunes does your unit have?
4 tunes
Tune1,2,3,extreme
HOT LLY 0000CD I assume extreme is the 290hp tune?
Does anyone have an idea of how the new PPE tunes (10 settings)stacks up against some of the vendor EFI live tunes ? Like drivability, smoke, shifting, EGT's, etc. ..........anybody with an opinion on this ?
brich6600 03-27-2007, 08:53 PM Not sure about EFI live but can tell you I have been running the PPE on tune 10 and it goes down the road great, power when needed, not touchy, feels like stock but with much more power. Definately a good street tune, Shifts good real good, egts seem fine, they get hotter of course the more you feed it, but thats normal. Smoke if you want it, you got it, if not just be easy with it. Definately my choice if you don't want to mess with EFI. Good Luck.
