What are the Southern California folks with toy haulers (tag or 5th) and K3500 4X4 CC LB D/A duals using for tire/wheel combinations in the sand? Any tire recommendations? Lifts? Air Down suggestions? Any comments appreciated.

I would be hesitant to put big dual wheel on the front of a GM IFS truck. It is not "that" strong and you could break or bend something in the front end. Some may do it but dual front tires is best reserved for trucks with D60's or better striaght axles in the front end.

Snowman, thanks for the comment. What I was looking for was some information about problems/solutions associated with operating a heavily loaded K3500 dually/fifth wheel rig in sand. I was looking for suggestions (different tire/wheel set ups) that would improve over the stock set up, i.e. 225/85/16. I did not mean to imply that I was looking to put duals on the front axle of an IFS set up. Thanks again

Super_Max,

When we went to Sand Mountain this year I aired down to 25 lbs on all four corners. Was the only one in the group that didn't get stuck (could've just been lucky though). I'll do the same for Glamis. Stock rims and I love the Revo's.Edited by: Terrain Twister

Lots of duallys running around Silver Lake sand dunes in Michigan. Saw a few stock ones this weekend. Most are running 15/12psi. No more trailers allowed on the dunes though, so I'm not sure how well they pull trailers in the sand.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Sorry but from your question I assumed you where looking to put 8 wheels on it. As others have stated, bigger/wider tires with LOW pressure is a BIG help in sand. Be advised though that you might want bead locking rims too because at low pressure with the load and torque on wheels from a fifth wheel, you do not want they slipping on rim or breaking bead loose which would be a real bad day. Yah it can just got back from Pismo sand dunes, buddy's D/A lost the bead on the front diverside tire and tore a huge gashin it. Ended up having to get four spares and put them on. Looked funny since he has a 6" lift.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifEdited by: LBZrcks
