I purchased a 2004.5 Duramax about 6 weeks ago after knowing that a new truck purchase was coming for a couple of years. After all the research, of which these forums were a large part of, I picked up the Duramax, which has performed wonderfully.
Unfortunately, I have driven a manual Toyota for the last 11 years and am not accustomed to an automatic. Long story short, I had the Duramax parked up against a concrete crosstie that was above a 15 to 18 foot bank with a ditch at the bottom. I stepped out without having put the truck into park and before my better half or I could stop the truck, it rolled over the crosstie and down into the ditch.
While I can console myself with the fact that this is only a truck and no one was hurt, the truck only had 900 miles on it and it has been at best an unpleasant experience. I have paid handsomely for moment of stupidity.
I am looking for some info regarding the damage to the truck. Both front fenders are being replaced, the valance and front bumper are being replaced as they took most of the impact and the hood, while undamaged, is being replaced because the latch was bent and there are no replacement latches available. Also, one door may have to be replaced.
If the frame were bent up front, can the frame be replaced or straightened? If the frame were bent, what are the chances that the frame could be replaced? At this point, I don't know if there has been any frame damage and the truck has been driven with no wobble or veering.
Any insight would be appreciated as I am pondering all my options.
Regards,
Mark
