: Removing badges
OVPolarBear 03-09-2007, 07:28 AM Would an electrical heat gun be appropriate for removing a dealer's chrome plated plastic badge? I'm not sure how these are attached. Glue of some kind? Obviously I don't want to pull the paint off or dent the sheet metal. :( Thanks.
Rosey 03-09-2007, 08:11 AM Electric Hair Dryer (Gun) should do it......just take your time.
J Wood 03-09-2007, 08:11 AM Shouldn't be any trouble at all. Do a search for emblem removal, there are tons threads about it.
RYDNHI4x4 03-09-2007, 08:23 AM fishing line or hair fryer of some sort works the best. it just depends on which badging your tring to take off. heat gun for the 4x4 stickers and fishing line for the badges on the doors. once off use 3m adhesive removal.
aka108 03-09-2007, 08:40 AM I'd stay away from the heat gun. They run too hot so a little error and the paint can go to.
George H 03-09-2007, 08:45 AM I have used dental floss in the past and it works quite well.........George H
BBTOM 03-10-2007, 10:21 AM If you use a heatgun set it on the lower setting. As it may bamage your paint .you may want to try a hair drier.
DMAXXED 03-10-2007, 10:12 PM I used string to get behind it and pulled them off with no problems. And no heat.
Rnult13 03-11-2007, 12:18 AM I was able to just pull them off without any heat. Just go nice and slow.
Good Luck!
neubauej 03-12-2007, 11:46 AM I would stay away from heat, just pull at a corner carefully and clean it up with adhesive remover. At most, point the badge twards the sun for a couple hours.
The best method i found is to let truck set in the sun to warm emblems and use the little 1g paint can opener that home depot gives with paint. dont pry against truck just pull

Sun is your friend. If its hot enough out you probably won't even need the adhesive remover, but if you do it works great. Fishing line is also an excellent way to get behind them and get your peel started.
JIMDMAX 03-13-2007, 04:32 PM Yes use sunlight & fishing line i have remove thouands of them use micofilament (sp)25 to 30 lbs this way you wont damage the elblem
05' Ditry Duramax 03-13-2007, 07:02 PM I did this on my 04. I just used my fingers and got under the corner and pulled them right off. Went back the 3m addhesive remover and all was good. I didn't need the fishing line or anything, but that is a good idea. Does anyone know how to put thm back on??? I wanted to put the Duramax badge on the cowl of the hood....... Would i have to get another bagde to do this????
96GMC6.5L 03-13-2007, 07:28 PM I think if you just take all the old 3M tape that is stuck to the back of it off, and go buy a roll of new stuff (3M tape) you can just stick it to the back, and away you go.

hoss06 03-14-2007, 01:43 PM After the badges are off, do you guys think goo gone would work at loosening up the leftover?
jmg343 03-14-2007, 02:50 PM goo gone should work just as well.
DMAXXED 03-14-2007, 04:42 PM I found wd40 works the best.
hoss06 03-15-2007, 03:53 PM I'm in luck I have both of them. The badges are coming off tonight after I get off of work.
armoks 03-15-2007, 06:28 PM I took off the side moldings and a pinstripe the dealer put on just pulled on the moldings and they came off but had to pick and rub the 3M tape off:mad: came out nice though:cool:

dieseljoe 03-16-2007, 05:26 AM just be careful,i know that some of those ba***** dealerships drill holes in your tailgate to put those d*** dealer emblems on.or they rivet them on.that was back in the day though .i dont know if they still do it that way.most of them now are just cheap stickers or just like the factory badging.
hoss06 03-16-2007, 08:21 AM I removed my badges last night. Took a while and got a sore thumb, but it looks nice and clean. I used a hard plastic tool to get off the glue, then some goo gone and a rag for the rest.

Big improvement, but you missed 4 :p: Seroiusly though, it would look 10x better in my book minus the 2500, dmax, model designation behind the rear doors, and 4x4 stickers.
tbyrne 03-21-2007, 10:28 AM Has anyone found that the emblems come off easier if the truck is new? I took the emblems off of a trucks that was a few years old. It was a PITA to get the glue off.

I dropped the Silverado badge from the tailgate, LT badges and the 4x4 stickers, but haven't done anything to the 2500HD or D-Max/Alli badge. A small part of me wants to remove the 2500HD, but retain the D-Max/Alli designation - which would require lowering in from its current location. Any thoughts on this or is the consensus to remove them all?
MaxumDuramax 03-21-2007, 08:35 PM I took off the LT stickers with my fingers, the tailgate and 2500HD with a hairdryer and they didn't leave any stickum behind at all.
enahs 03-22-2007, 08:21 PM Many years ago, a friend who had ordered a Corvette announced that it was in and the dealer had just called to say come and get it. He invited me to go along. That dealer always used a drilled and mounted metal logo — which I reminded the friend about. It was a race to the dealer — just to find the tech kneeling behind the car with drill in hand. Just in time to stop it! Ever since then, I have always noted to the dealer that I want no logo, no nuttin unless he's will to pay me to advertise (and it would have to be a lot).
