My new LLY has a slight ticking noise that I can hear only while it's idling. It's a cyclical type sound, but it doesn't sound like it's something internal, it sounds more like a belt tensioner or something. Is it anything to worry about, or am I just being really anal?! Thanks.

It may be the serpentine belt. Had a similar thing with my ex 8.1 gasser only it started at about 30,000 miles. Dealer replaced belt and no further noises. Got rid of it at 47,000 miles.

When i first got my truck i had that proble to.Took it in to dealer they couldint find anything. But it is not as loud now i got 10,000 on it now.
I had the ticking noise at idle to about 8k miles and then it went away.

My Father and I had that same problem. A diesel tech from Souther Oregon said that it was the injection pump turning off and on. I dont think he used the word injection pump, but it was something controlling fuel pressure and a whole bunch of stuff like that.
I have the same noise, it is a random ticking noise right? It is the exhaust heating up and cooling down. My buddy had the same thing, he said it went away at about 10K. I asked the dealer and they confermed it was the exhaust.

My truck pretty much just does it at idle, dont think it is the exhuast though becuase the truck could have been driven all day and it will still do that. However, there is a significant temp change between driving and idle, so maybe that is it.
