: Help-About to buy 04 Super Duty

I am about to take delivery on a 04 Super Duty. Inventory is slim this time of year, My dealer did a search and came up with one that has the options I wanted.

The truck was built in Nov. 03, it has 800 miles on it and was the service managers demo at the dealership where it is now located.

After reading discussions here I have concerns that I may be making a bad decision. Specificly I have a concern about its date of manufacture. Was there a problem with the early o4 6.0? What were the specific problems? What date of manufacture should I be looking for?

I was unaware of this FLASH business until today. Can some one please help explain further why this was done and How I can tell if it was done to this Truck. The dealership that I am buying from ran the VIN through the computor and no service record was present. Are there recalls on this truck that should have been taken care of?

This is my first diesel purchase.

Please Help. Thanks in advance.

From talking to a Ford sales rep., it would be wise to buy the 05'... As far as I know, early 04's had multiple problems. Good luck!

I would not touch that truck. They had too many serious bugs early on and into the first year.

No brand loyalty talking here at all.... you like the PSD, get one, but don't get on 04... especially one that's been hanging around. You will be the bearer of Ford's follies.

Get a late 04 or an 05... 05's have a new front coil spring suspension design (like Dodge useshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif) and a built in trailer brake controller that uses data from the computer to manage braking. Seems pretty smart. The new suspension chucks the leaf springs to give it a better ride and a significantly less turning radius.

Remember, on the Ford forums you'll have people with those build date trucks telling you not to worry, how they either had no issues or the ones they had were fixed. You also have people over there that are so frikkin brand loyal that they refuse to ever tell the real story. Smart of you to ask around besides the Ford sites.Edited by: hoot
