Hi Everyone,
I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. I own a 1997 Savana 6.5 turbo Diesel. if I start it up when cold, it runs for about 15 minutes or so until it heats up to 75 degrees F. Once the r.p.ms drop, the advance stepper motor on the injection pump starts to go up and down. Black smoke appears (very rich in unburned fuel), then it returns to normal rpm and then it repeats the same process over until it smokes and dies. When I restart it, a puff of black smoke will run half a minute and the same thing happens. I would like to know what controls the stepper motor on the injection pump. Is it the PMD, TPS, vehicle computer, cold sensor, etc???I'd also like to know if the electric fuel pump is supposed to run with the ignition off. I'd appreciate any input you can give me.
Thanks,
TomVu
