: dealer radio program problems
Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 02:03 PM I kept the radio out of my 05 Silverado, its a 6 cd changer p/n 15179349. I would like to have it installed into my 06, the dealer says it wont work, even though they never tried it! But they would look into it if I payed...
is there a way to tell if it can be done without paying them $75 to tell me it cant???

Yes. Go to a different dealer. Your's is full of chit. It shouldn't cost more than $30-$40.
mike3871 03-07-2007, 03:09 PM That dealer is full of it i 've done it 3 times so far just write down the part number on the radio you're installing in case tech 2 ask's for it but it's about 15 minutes to program you're radio
Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 08:22 PM forgive me for asking but even though I have had the dealer program radio's in the past, I have no idea what it takes to program one.
What exactly does it take to program one???
mike3871 03-07-2007, 08:48 PM They plug in the tech ii and away they go it's only a security feature so if you're radio gets stolen it can't be used on another truck it' s actually got your vin in it if that helps
TheBac 03-07-2007, 08:59 PM I'll assume you have Bose.
Tell them to try these programs.
ID Type...............Selected#..................... Description
1 Op System.....15100937........New calibration to correct no audio output from speakers (UC6 radios)
2 Tuner.........15064112........ North America/Domestic
3 Audio.............10380269....... For S/T (Model Year 2006 and later): With UQA.
4 Equalizer........15126143....... New calibrations to reduce chime volume.
5 System..........15100939....... New calibration to correct no audio output from speakers (UC6 radios)
I noticed that the regular "audio" program for that radio was changed for the 2006/07 radios. The old program was "10364319......For C/K/H2: Only for RPO UQ7 without Y91/Y92. For S/T (Model Year 2004/2005): With UQA. IMPORTANT: Amp. has 2 connectors, "AMP" does NOT appear in Message Monitor". Notice the new model year designation.
Also, there is another equalizer program available. It's "15195739........New calibration to turn off DTC B1281". I think it is a later program, and should work too.
Now you know as much as the dealer. That 2005 radio will work fine in your 2006.
Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 09:04 PM The reason I asked is because the dealer said he might have to call TIS (I have no idea what that is) and get them involved then download "stuff" (his words) into the tech II...
and after all that it still might not program corectly.
Is this accurate? Or am I being sold the a line?
Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 09:05 PM Sorry, no Bose....
does that make a differance?
I'll assume you have Bose.
Tell them to try these programs.

I noticed that
TheBac 03-07-2007, 09:12 PM I forgot to ask first....I seem to remember you had a base model, didn't you? Yes...Bose or no Bose does matter. In fact, thats usually what messes the dealer up when they look for programming.
Try these:
ID Selected# Description
1 15100937 New calibration to correct no audio output from speakers (UC6 radios)
2 15064112 North America/Domestic
3 15195741 New calibration to turn off DTC B1281.
4 15848445 Use only with UQ3 & Crew Cab
5 15100939 New calibration to correct no audio output from speakers (UC6 radios)
It should still work fine. They probably dont see a lot of upgraded radios in base trucks.
Heres a detail of that list:

Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 09:30 PM Tom, I have an LT1 that has a single cd w/xm. Does that change anything?

TheBac 03-07-2007, 09:36 PM No..it shouldn't. Those programs are the ones to use for a truck without Bose. They turn the radio's internal amp on so it will work. The Bose programs turn that amp off so the Bose amp does the work.
Xm has nothing to do with radio operation. Its a separate unit.
BTW, how'd you get a crew cab without Bose but with XM? Thats an odd combo in an LT1 truck, thats for sure.
Rattlewagon 03-07-2007, 10:39 PM Tom, if I understand you correctly there should be no reason to "call" anybody to program this radio? I'm not trying to put you on the spot but I'm still trying to understand what this dealer is talking about having to call someone and download something to make the radio work.
And on another, more interesting note, curiosity got the best of me so I went out and installed the changer in my truck being careful not to turn the ignition past accessory so the BCM wouldn’t do a VIN relearn, and the radio works just fine.
As for the Bose, it took me about two weeks before I realized that it didn't have it. I just took it for granted that it did.
TheBac 03-08-2007, 06:43 AM The dealer will probably call up GM Tech...something to do with getting the OK to reprogram a module. Why they do it instead of just going into TIS2WEB and downloading the programs is beyond me. Back in 2003 I tried to install a 6disc into a truck without Bose, and the dealers I went to all acted like I was nuts, and said it couldnt be done because GM Tech said so. If I would have had my link to TIS back then, I would have known what to do.
Just take that second list of programs into the dealer and tell them to load those into the BCM. They should do the trick. Should take them all of 10-15 minutes to reprogram that radio.
That is just wierd that you dont have Bose in an LT truck.
Bodysurfer 03-08-2007, 06:51 AM Tom knows his numbers.....dont you Tom? ;)
TheBac 03-08-2007, 06:59 AM Doug, you're a chucklehead if I ever knew one!
Heck, its beyond simple to look them up. The dealer gets into their troubles when they get to "Is it Bose or not", as most of the time they dont remember what all the audio option codes were. UQ5, UQ7, UQA, etc....
BTW, here's what those mean:
UQ3 - ENHANCED AUDIO SPEAKERS
UQ5 - EXT RANGE SOUND FRT & RR SPKRS
UQ7 - BOSE SPEAKER SYSTEM
UQA - Bose Audio System
Rattlewagon 03-08-2007, 03:59 PM Ill let you guys know how I make out, thanks for the help!
Rattlewagon 03-09-2007, 10:14 AM the dealer said they tried to program it and the tech II kept coming back saying "not supported"....
TheBac 03-09-2007, 06:44 PM Geez. You gotta be kidding. Send me your VIN in a PM and I'll look it up.
Rattlewagon 03-09-2007, 08:24 PM Do you guys remember the old saying "a fool and his money soon will part ways?". Look up "fool" and you'll find a picture of me!
:iamwithst
Sorry, there may be a logical reason why it couldnt be done but my gut tells me that someone saw me coming.
and on that note, PM sent...
