Hi- probably a simple question, but I never knew the answer to. I have an 83 Blazer (ex military) runs great- only problem is that during hard acceleration, it smokes excessively. Does not seem to bog down or miss, just smokes like crazy. I have experienced this before when I used to drive 6.9 IH- powered ambulances. Is this a common thing or should I be looking for something. Happens during high RPM period. Changed fuel filter 6 months- 3000 miles ago. No oil or coolant loss. New K&N air filter. Buy my diesel from a pretty busy truck stop. Smoke is white or grey colored. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Edited by: CUCV

Normal to smoke on hard accel, if smoke clears at steady speed,, if smokes all the time may need to do some troubleshooting

Give the pump a touch more advance to compensate for timing chain slop, a lines width should be sufficient. That should make the smoke dissappear or turn black instead of gray, if it turns black, I'd look into a set of injectors, but if you really want to get it right, it will probably need a new chain.

White smoke is usually air in the system, or timing.
