Is there any problem with buying a 2006-2007 Extended Cab, Diesel truck? I am more reffering to the fact that the truck is an extended cab. Is there enough room back there for passengers to be comfortable? I would expect to use the truck for hunting and camping and dirt bike riding and for all of these activities I would expect to have 1 or 2 passengers sitting in the back.

Has anybody had any problems with Extended Cabs? The reason that I'm thinking extended cab instead of crew cab is because I'd want to be the shortest possible that I could be and I still want to be able to have passengers and a longbed.

What are everybody else's thoughts?

ext. cabs are not too bad at all. the only time people have ever complained is when they cant roll the windows down. My dad has a 4door non-mega cab dodge and i have every bit as much room with my ext. cab.

If your passangers are smaller than you then get the extended cab. If they are bigger than you get the crewcab. I would not want to sit in the back of my ex-cab for any amount of time on the road. But I have spent several hours in the back of my dads crewcab with no problems.

All of the passengers that I would have are way smaller than me. I'm the biggest guy I know besides my uncle and grandpa. And as some of you guys may know, when you go on a trip with grandpa, the front seat belongs to him.

I apologise for getting off topic, but if your still riding around with your Grandpa, well, stop and give that a moment of silence. I didnt get enough time with mine. Give him as much room as he wants. You will find that you will be trying to explain to your children how Grandpa was. Sorry for reflections! My Grandpa was a mechanic and boy do I wish he could have seen how far Diesels have come.

I'm happy with my ec. It's usable and we use the back seats regularly. Gotta admit that I wouldn't want to sit back there on a long trip, but my wife is perfectly happy back there. Above comment is right about the GM ec being very similar to the Dodge standard four door, and I prefer the longer Chevy front door for regular in and out of the front seat. So far no regrets about passing on the crew cab. Good luck.

Well, the only way that I can go hunting is with my grandpa, so, yeah. Plus I enjoy my time with him. Like you said, he can pretty much have whatever he wants.

I'd go with the crew cab if monies allow; you'll never have too much space and its much cheaper to start with a crew cab than pay to upgrade later.

I have an EC because the CC would not fit in my garage with the long bed, I do not ride back there very often, I am 6 foot 3, but my kid and wife fits back there just fine. If the people that ride back there are tall, not to comfortable, if they are shorter, and the front seat riders do not have the seat all the way back, they should be fine.

Ive had three ec and I'am on my forth cc now i'am spoiled and will only have cc's the xtra space. The convince of not having to open your door to let people in and out.

If you have the money get the CC, no question. I had a n EC and for trips with any normal sized adult more than just a short trip was uncomfortable for them. So much more room with the CC, you won't regret it!

Another vote for a CC, I wish I would of.

With the seats all the way back there is no room in an EC. Any adult of size can't sit straight they have to angle their body to fit comfortably. The passenger side front seat can be slid foward to give more room but then the front rider is hitting the glove box. EC are good for short trips or for kids. A CC gives alot more room and the doors/windows are great. I agree a CCLB is LONG but if you are hauling passengers alot a CC is a must IMO.

I have had all three types of cabs and currently have an Ext. cab that I love. That being said, if your passengers are going to be back there on a regular basis, get a CC. Just my 2bits.

Been thru them all. Reg cab, Extended and Crew. The exteded cab was Ok for grandkids and dogs, either separate or together. Dogs made less of a mess. The seat in the extended cab is really not much more than a jump type seat, fine for a few short runs but damned unconfortable on the longer ones. If you funds allow, spend a little extra and order the crew cab. You will not be disappointed. Think most crew cab owners here have had similar experiences and they all get the same mpg.

I have had both and though the ext cab was fine, I will never go back. The crew is easier to get in and out and I don't think the back seat in the ext cab is comfortable for any distance longer than 20 minutes.

I currently have both XC and CC. The CC is far superior for convenience and back seat space and comfort.
I dont know about the new trucks but for 2002, the CCLB is 256.2" and the XCLB is 246.6"....a difference of less than 10" on a truck thats over 20 feet. You probably wouldnt notice the difference.

I've ridden in the back of my EC (when my folks owned it) for an extended period of time (4+ hours) and it is not comfortable. I'm not a big person either, 5'10".

For shorter trips I think it'd be fine though.

I have a Ext. I find the 4 doors kind of ugly that is, cars and trucks. I'm one of the guys that think a short bed reg cab pickup truck is better looking choice of any configuration. O well to each his own.

As for room.. if my passengers don't want to sit out back, they can drive. Wife and kids never ever complain. Plowing with ext is already long enough.

Not having a vehicles that hold 6 passengers is a bigger issue. I wish I could have got a flip down center console in leather SLT. I wounder if that a option for 07's?

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet....... The Crew cab has a split folding rear seat, so if it isn't full of passengers it can be full of other stuff. I am very glad I bought the crew cab.

I have a an EC and so does my g/f. They suit our needs since its either just us and the dog or occassionally my teenaged sisters will be with us. Either way, all the passengers we've ever had its fine for. On the next upgrade for myself or the g/f, a CC will likely entry the stable though. Can't ever have too much space in the cab and the seperate rear doors with windows that roll down are nice features too. ;) She'll probably get the CC, and I'll probably get a RC dually. Then if we need to transport more people, it'll be with her truck, if not, mine will suffice.

There's my 2% of a green back.

I rode in the back of an extended cab for 35 hours straight, yes 35 HOURS and then 5 days later 35 hours back when a group of us drove from Ohio to Idaho to ride St. Anthonys dunes. 12 of it was by myself which was bad but the rest was with someone else in the backseat. Honestly the excitement of going out there trumped the crampness but on the way back it literally sucked. If I had to do it again I would and having the front seat pushed up helped but the Crew Cab would have been so much better.

I like the looks of the EC and the price but I didn't want to have any reason to upgrade in the short term so went with the CC. Also I don't think my lab would have been comfy in the EC and the CC seats fold flat, much better!

I had a Dodge 2002 SLE extended cab and my son in law had a 2500HD extended cab...no comaprison for room between Dodge and Chevy. Chevy can learn something from Dodge abnout room. Ther eis more room in a Dodge Extended cab than a Chevy along with the extra door opening the right way. I kind of doubt a megacab even compares to a 2500 let alone holds a back seat to it. I have a 3500 hd crew cab an the front seat does not have the room my Dodge 1500 has. I personally think an exrended cab in General Motors is for kids and pets...adults on short trips maybe...long trips definately not..my opinion based on owning a Chevy and a Dodge and my son in law having the 2500.

If they are taller than 5' do not get the extended cab if you plan on carting ppl around for more than a 30 minute ride. Very uncomfortable.

Another thing to consider.....right now, the people riding in the back seat of an EC are small, but if they are gonna grow (as kids are known to do), then they will quickly outgrow the EC back seats. I started off with an EC when my kids where preteen, but as soon as puberty kicked in, the older boy kicked his mama into the back seat......and she kicked me into a crew cab.

Couldn't have planned it any better.....:)

How do you guys feel about the extended cab vs. the crew cab in terms of looks? I have heard a few people say that they like the way that the extended cab looks over the crew cab, on the other hand, I have never heard anyone say that they like the crew cab over the extended cab-even though there is more room.

The longer the truck, the higher it needs to be.

Stock vs Stock the Ex Cab wins hands down for looks and stance. Put a lift on a EC LB or CC SB/LB and they look TOUGH!

Ultimate looks for me have to go to a CC dually with a lift :)

I have it planned out. Right now I have an 07 classic Ex Cab. It's just fiance and I. We plan on having our first kid 1-2 yrs after we are married which we get married this Nov. By the time they grow to a size where the EC is an issue thats going to be 10-14yrs down the road. By then I'll be getting a new truck anyway as I don't believe in keeping vehicles longer than 10-12yrs. And at that point I will for sure go to a CC. Then when the wife and I are old Senior Citizens living the rest of our old lives together I will go to a Reg Cab :)

I agree with everything you said until you have two kids. With today's infant carriers you will be suprised how much room they take in backseat. I had an extended cab 1500 and the only way we could get my son to fit in the backseat was in the center of the back seat. Also, the angle of the backseat is a little too much to keep an infant carrier level, we had to use cut off 2x4s to level the base out. That was with the Peg Perego system. Just before my daughter was born, we bought a Suburban but traded for the Crew Cab. I can stick my 100 pound lab between the kids and they still have plenty of room. Just my $.02 worth.

i think it depends on the size passengers, i had a 1500 ext. cab and it wasnt too bad sitting in the back for an adult, younger kids isnt a problem at all, for short trips it isnt bad but for a long trip i wouldnt be able to take it, i went with a CC now and dont think i will ever go back to an ext cab. the extra room is nice but also having 4 independent doors, it always seemed to be a pain to have to open the front door to let the back door open as well.

I always liked the ext dually, ext cab short bed, and reg cab long bed.
don't care for ext/ cc long bed SRW, or CC short bed.

95-2000 are my favorite years, newer ones look "inflated" like someone added too much pressure when inflating them.

Here's the way I look at it... I don't have to ride back there so WHO CARES:D . Plus, if you have the crew cab and you go out with your buddies you'll be the one who has to drive all the time.

I have 3 kids with another one in the oven. Even with the crewcab the little monsters seem to always touch the back of the front seats with there dirty boots. When they sit in a car seat ther legs sit higher and forward. I also had problems fitting car seats in my e/c. Had 3 of them in there at the same time.
