There an alarm out there that isnt really intergrated into the truck? All I want is something to make noise and hopefully trigger another accesory with a constant hot when one of 2 windows is broken or my back tool box gets opened.

Edited to increase my chances for favorable litigation if I ever corner a dirt bag that is screwing with my babyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

well, I read the post before you edited. You should have left it. . . .LOL.

Tell your landlord you want him to install a garage. You'll bump your rent up 50 bucks a month. Then if you shoot the SOB, it will be easier to explain in a court of law. You'd probably still lose, but at least you would have a chance.

Any good alarm shop should be able to help you out. Some aftermarket alarms have perimeter sensors, as well as pressure sensors for the cab. You can wire your tool box with pin switches and integrate them to your alarm.

Talked with a couple shops......seems like they all want to make sure they do the install. Some wont sell seperate and the ones that do have a absolutley no warantee(even if its screwed from the factory)

Audiovox prestiege make good alarms?

After talking to a shop I think not I want one of those window sensors(the mirophone deal that listens for broken glass) in my cab and then the motion sensor in my tool box with possibly a pin switch too. Would like to wire the alarm to turn on my whirly lights when its activated but I would need a constant hot output when activated to trigger my relay for the flashy lights.

Dennis, duno what you are talking about budy, I would never shoot anybody unless my life was threatened.

Guy at the stereo/alarm place mentioned maybe a alarm with a pager, I could just have the pager go off and not have any other part of the alarm activated. So maybe I could have a better chance of catching the guy. Told him that was a very bad idea in a few more words and he replied he didnt hear a thing but yes just scaring them off might be the best idea.Edited by: ratlover

My Prestige has a transmitter that tells me if the alarm goes off plus the benefit of remote starting and it will cycle on and off at 20 minute intervals if it gets really cold and you can't plug in.

I have a Cliford in mine. Glass breakage sensor, back up battery siren, starter kill, tilt sensor.
Cliford was bought out by someone, but still has the Cliford name on it. Had it installed. Lifetime warranty on the install. This is my third alarm with this set up. Had two minor issues - connection to the "brain" came loose. Couldn't shut the alarm off. On this set up, my back up battery siren battery has been over charged. Need to get the noise maker replaced.

What are the differnt ways of detecting broken glass? Not going to rely on a dual stage shock sensor for this. Live close to a RR and the first guy did it in a way acording to the cops that more than likely all the alarm woulda done anyway is chirp.

I hear there are mics that listen for high freq noise? Just need the 2 side windows covered(reg cab back windo is inexcessable to all but a chinese circus midget/controtioist) Anyother ways?

Dual stage will go in the tool box along with a pin switch.

I investigated getting a few rattle snakes but i live in IL and it gets too cold in the winter for the little guys.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Do they make alarms with warning "chirps" that you can record a spoken phrase? That may get me into trouble too thoughhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

As the former owner of a car audio store, I opted for the Prestige by Audiovox. I used to sell the Cliffords and the Alpines and the Ungo... all great alarms with great features. But my pocket is not impressed with the logo, only with all the extra cash that covers my keys when I am searching for them.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

My Duramax is now remote start, remote windows (up/down/crack) shock and motion sensors in cab and bed and the tailgate is pinned as well. Glass breakage, ignition bypass round out the installed features, all for about $400 installed including the smart-key module necessary for the remote start.

If I added all that up with a Clifford or Alpine nameplate it would be over $1000 and would work no better.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif</DIV>

I think my glass breakage sensor is some type of microphone. It works apparently by hearing a metallic noise. If you jingle your keys next to the window, it could set the alarm off (if set too sensitivly) People breaking glass usually use something metallic to break a window. My alarm also has the door pins, and shock sensor as activation points. For the everyday dumb a#*, a basic alarm should be good. We don't have the type of vehicle to attract a professional car thief. And kids won't run the risk of targeting a vehicle with a flashing LED. Going on five years in this place; never had a problem when the flashing light has been there. Before I have been hit twice.

I would like an alarm that goes off when someone tries to open the door handle.

2Blue does yours do this and what is yours called?

That is a function of the vehicle and not the alarm actually. On many cars, if you lift on the handle, it turns on the inside dome lights. This can be wired into an alarm trigger.

That doesn't mean it cant be done, it's just labor intensive as you will need to install micro switches on each door handle you want this feature on and run wires out from each switch to the relates on the alarm. I've done it many times, but it ain't real fun and each door can take up to an hour to wire.

and my alarm is a Prestige APS768... not real glitzy, but it does the job very well. http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&amp;storeId=10001&amp;produ ctId=13320&amp;langId=-1

Well... they don't on the 04, not sure about 03. It's more of a car feature than a truck feature.
