On my 6.5 TD truck, when the vaccuum hose to the wastegate broke, there was no boost and LOTS of black smoke.

If I wanted to purposely make a lot of black smoke on the dmax, without running Edge on L5, could I fiddle with the wastegate somehow to accomplish this?

This is not meant for driving around town thing, rather for something else. :) I do know that if i took one of the hoses to the intercooler off, I'll get lots of black smoke, I know this because the hose blew off once.

Thanks

If you disconnect your wastegate tube your waste gate will stay open and your exhaust will just blow into the downpipe. This is why you are getting the black smoke because without the turbo boost you engine didn't have enough air to mix with the fuel. this maynot cause any serious problems other than sooting you oil and your internals quicker. I don't think it would be a good idea to run with your intercooler pipe disconnected very long because you will have no air filtration and you will be bypassing your MAF sensor.

What exactly are you wanting to make so much smoke for!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
