: How much does GM really know?
jderk 09-03-2004, 01:34 PM I've got a question for the techs out there. I was at the stealers the other day to see a buddy that works in the body shop. While I was inside, the SM was checking out my truck. When I came back out, he asked me what the little display on the dash was {Attitude monitor}. I replied that it was just a digital gauge package. I think he bought it, but does GM release anything to the stealers as to how to identify different programmers? They are not very common up here, so I think I am ok.
Thanks
tbone1227 09-03-2004, 01:57 PM i dont think those guys know much of anything - i was in my stealers on wednesday for some warranty work, and i knew more information than the SM because of what ive learned on here and through friends, i was just laughing at them. and whats up with this - my seat and mirror memory doesnt work exactly as designed ( doesnt return to exact same place ) - and they said they dont have a fix for it ? how is it they cant fix something and dont know how ?
dmaxalliTech 09-03-2004, 02:08 PM the individual dealers will vary based on personal experience, but GM has quite a good idea what is being done to these. Its not hard to notice that magazine adds, tv shows and websites pertaining to this.
ratlover 09-03-2004, 02:17 PM JMO but I dont think GM really cares what a few guys are doing to thier trucks especially when it involves selling more trucks(whooping up on the comp does good for truck sales) as long as people arnt blowing up thier motors or otherwise grenading stuff I think gm is just sitting back and not caring. Give em a reason to care though and they are probably smarter than we think(some individual dealers are probably clusless though)
85% of the reason i bought my truck was what I could do to it, not what gm did to it. I'm sure otheres think the same and the general knows this.
There are probably GM guys strolling about "the place" as we speakhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif Oh, and for the record if anybody is looking at these threads like santa clause marking off who has been good and bad and who's getting warantee work covered.....I really dont have any mods, I just say i do some my internet buddys think I'm coolhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

If GM is roaming around here, I hope they have noticed how long some people have to wait before they get there injectors replaced. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifEdited by: Bronco

The stealers are getting better at identifying aftermarket equipment. And they may even have diagnostic tools that detect whether programs have been loaded.
The ford site has at least one member that took his 6.0L in for work, after restoring the stock program, and the shop reported the truck was once operating with a 100hp aftermaket power program. I suppose it's only a matter of time before the same happens to us.Edited by: Ray403Dmax

Carbon04 09-03-2004, 08:05 PM There was a article in the last issue of Car and Driver about Mitsubishi Motors wandering around websites making notes on who has what and has competed in what and voiding their warantee accordingly. Scary to say the least that it has come down to this.
Bronco 09-03-2004, 09:16 PM If they are visiting for there own benifit, then we should benifit from there visits here as well. How about a new topic. " LETTERS TO GM!" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Edited by: Bronco
