Does anyone know the easiest and least expensive way to get a dent out of a rear bumper? It is chrome! I also would like to know what you think about having the chrome taken off and painting front and rear bumpers black like the rest of the truck? Like Ford and Dodge do to their trucks.

The steel in these are quite thick and the chances of getting out the dent without cracking the chrome is very unlikely. Replacing the bumper is probably your best bet. I would shop for used and have them painted to match your truck, replacing them would only take a short amount of time.

If you want to paint it anyway there's no point in worry about cracking the chrome. The best way to get the chrome off is with an angle grinder. If you're just going straight black I'd recommend powder coating instead of paint, then shoot some clear coat over top of it. You can do the chrome removal yourself and take it to a powder coating shop, save some $$$.

That is kind of what I thought, My question is: Have you guys ever seen one like this? All black no chrome? Even the grill can be painted. I do not like the bling effect of chrome but do not want the truck to look like a mad Max truck either.

I have seen it. I personally don't like it.

You're stuck with the dent. These bumpers are quite flimsy and very disappointing. Mine has one too. It did better than my sister's boyfriend's car though.

A good collision shop body man can probably get the dent out without it stretching the metal and making it look like hell. An angle grinder will remove the chrome but leave deep scratches if you are not very carefull. A better method would be sand blasting...........George H

I thought about blasting, but I'm not sure if that would remove the chrome or not. You'd probably need a high powered blaster to do it at least.

Sand it, fill it, prime it and paint it. No need to blast and pwdercoat.

Remove the chrome shell from the bumper frame and place it face down on a thick carpet and light tap the dent from the inside with a rawhide or dead blow mallet (I prefer rawhide). It takes patience and skill, but if it's not creased but merely dimpled, it can be removed completely. Creases and deep dents will usually have light waves after removing the bulk of the dent. Removing the bumper shell is probably the hardest part, next to lining it up straight upon reassembly to the truck. Working it methodically with the rawhide will not crack the chrome in my experience.

Btw, I believe you can still buy just the shell as opposed to the whole bumper assembly.
