For those of us who work on our own trucks and need help trying to figure things out a shop manual is a big help, or what the dealers use. The dealers use a service called ALLDATA.COM to get up to date service and techinacal information. ALLDATA has a service for us Do it yourselfers called ALLDATADIY.COM it has everythiong the dealers have just for your vehicle. This included Techincal Service Bulletins (TSB's) flat rate labor Warrenttee and standard , skill level parts numbers along with Dealer list price on parts.
So for example the multi function switch for turn signals and dimmer cruise is acting up in my truck. I got the graphic break down and 22 step process for removal and 22 step process for install and I found out it is a skill level "B" (mid level) 2.2 hour flat rate for warrentee work 2.8 for standard and that I need part number 26097019 with cruise and dealer list is $340.29
Now with that part number I was able to go to gmpartsdirrect.com and put in the number and find that they would ship me the ACDelco part for$210.29. I went to the NAPA web site and found they wanted $252 I then picked up the phone and called the ACDelco distribution warehouse and found I could get the part in town and they had 3 instock for $184.09 same part as the dealer gets. This all took about 15 minutes.
For $25 year the ALLDATDIY.COM is a great reasource and you can ad additional vehicals for $15 year. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
If you use it to help you find parts alone it can pay for itself in one part.
Just though others might like to know.Edited by: 16gaSxS
