It is winter in Alaska and I own a 1995 crew cab with a 6.5L On two occasions, my truck has failed to restart after driving operating at temperature. The first time was after a 6 mile drive to get a windshield replaced [garaged for two hours-then failed to restart for two more hours]. The second time was after driving 200 miles in 15 degree F and stopping at a store. It failed to restart for 1 hour. I figured residual heat from the engine overheated the PMD. I packed the PMD with ice, per dealer recommendation. The only code I am getting is an ODB I 13 Engine Shut Off Solenoid Circuit fault. This puzzles me , as most blogs mention codes 35 or 36 as related to PMD failure. Any thoughts?

Yep - maybe water in your fuel is freezing in the filter, and maybe the ESO actually is failing, maybe again from frozen water.

Carefully unscrew it, connect the plug, turn on the key, and it should retract, turn off the key and spring should extend it .

Also look in the IP for ice

I failed to mention that each time this no start occurred, I changed the fuel filter, and confirmed fuel was flowing from the T handle drain. Slightly less than the 8 oz per 15 seconds of cranking. I have not checked for the 4psi at the T-Handle. There was no fuel at the injector return tubes. I had been using either Stanadyne or Diesel Injection Service additives. Fuel in my area is DF-1 or in Fairbanks DF-Arctic.

If you can find Howes Fuel Conditioner I would highly recommend that. With the windchill of -50 here where I am my truck never had a single problem.Just square tires. IMHO. Plus with Howes, if you buy it by the case and you ever freeze up, they will pay your tow bill.

Does the Engine Shut Off Solenoid simply unscrew from the injection pump? I assume the minimal fuel pressure on this side off the IP doesn't create too much of a diesel bath. Just in case, I won't try it on date night...Power Service Grey/White was used not Diesel Injection Service -I don't know what I was thinking...

Those additives keep the paraffin from gelling, but not the water from freezing - but, your fuel seems ok.

Yes - disconnect the plug, the solenoid unscrews ccw, LP won't run in '95 until START, so you won't get a bath.

Thanks, I'll try this today.
