just bought a prodigy brake controller. it comes with a plug in that plugs into the back of the brake controller and at the end of it is exposed wires that are supposed to be spliced with the adapter that came in the glove compartment of my 2006. is there a adapter out there i can purchase that i can plug into the back of the brake controller and plug right in underneath the dash without splicing anything at all?

Yes.

To expand on what Max said, Prodigy makes an adapter for between $10 and $20, that plugs into the controller and directly into the spot located under the dash, behind the black box cover to the left of the the steering column.

Then all you need to do is install a 40 amp fuse in the fuse panel under the hood where the 'dummy' fuse is at.

Whats the part number for this? Or do you have a link? Thanks,

it isn't that hard to install it if you get the harness out of the truck and look at the prodigy it tells you which color goes together it is really simple just use some heat shrink type connectors so they stay tight

I bought the adapter plug at camping world. "snap, snap"...doesn't get much easier than that. Great controller too!

Sorry, I don't have a part number. I got mine from the place I got the Prodigy from. If you do a google search on Prodigy, I'm sure you'll find them. You might try etrailer too.

There are two GM harnesses available, make sure you get the one for your year of truck.

Is the fuse required on the plug and go. I have mine plugged in and mounted under the dash. No mention of any fuse in the directions. Is this an added precaution? Is it needed?

i think it depends on the year of the truck i never had to pull a dummy fuse and replace with a 40 amp mine already had it installed now on my dads 01 i had the put the fuse in but someone may of accidently put my fuse in at the dealer because i had to go back and get the harness because it never came with the truck

I have an 05 6.0 Ext Cab and when I plugged in, I got power and it appears to work OK once connected to my RV. Is the 40a fuse located under the hood or near the driver's side door? Is it something I can just pop open and check or is safe to assume that if everything works OK, the fuse is already in place? I definitely want to make sure everthing checks out because the last thing I want to do is fry the brake control for lack of fuse.

Yes, you do need it.

333,
The 40a fuse that they are talking about has nothing to do with the brake controller. It is the fuse that energizes the 12v supply wire to charge the trailer batteries. You only need it if you are pulling a camper trailer or other trailer with onboard batteries. You would not need it for a boat trailer for example.

Just looked and it is there. What is the blank fuse to the right of the 40a for? It actually isn't an empty spot, it is a "red blank fuse filler". Just curious. Thanks for the info.
