Hi Folks, I am new here so bear with me.

I have a 2004.5 LLY, I have installed an AFE cold air intake, an MBRP 4" Turbo back exhaust and a Bully Dog "Triple Dog" programmer with the Outlook.

I have two questions:
1.) Initial installation of BD was awesome, lots of power and nice puff of black smoke just prior to launch when the hammer was dropped. Unbelievable fuel economy at any speed. Then I downloaded and installed an upgrade from the BD website as recommended by BD to do periodically. Now, the extreme setting has not been as strong as it was out of the box. No Black smoke at all, and fule economy not as high. Any suggestions?

2.) I have not done any work to the tranny, should I install a BD shift enhancer or other similar type product to handle this power?

You really should consider a built tranny to handle this power. About 100 h.p. is the absolute limit for power sent through any stock tranny. Anything over that, you're on borrowed time.

Try changing your fuel filter, it makes a world of difference on my truck after the filter is changed. I change mine around 5k miles.

Just changed the fuel filter last week. No change to power

Could just be overpowering the trans. Before I got my ATS 3 was about as high as I could go on my edge without much slippage, after that if you hammered it in 5 it seemed slower, so try rolling into it see if it helps. Also was it a 5 to 4 limp?

How many miles on truck with mods? Do you hammer down alot? If you plan on going furter with mods I would just get the new trans and take it in the wallet and be done. As the black smoke goes talk to bullydog see what changes were made in the program, maybe you need to add a lift pump, injectors, turbo, keep asking us diesel nutcases and we will eventually talk you into replacing every part on your truck with shinny new ones.:D

I was under the impression that rolling into it in 5th was what caused the tranny to limp, as it does not downshift, just puts all the power to the tranny and limps it.

Yes rolling the trottle in fifth gear does limp the trans. I read my post and it was hard to understand a little. I was refering to the levels of the edge box in it. I think he has just noticed an all around loss of power on take off, which is why suggested to roll into the throttle on takeoff.

OK, gotcha. Makes sense now.

To question #2, at least install a transgo shift kit, or go with a Suncoast Level 3, but don't leave it like that

Don't touch the bully dog shift kit. It's a waste of money. Get a transgo shift kit and while you are in the trans inspect the clutch packs. If they show signs of burning you will want to address them. Also it's not a bad idea to upgrade the torque converter. The stock TC is another weak link. A SCIII will address all of these issues at one time.
