...now I'm not just gloating, and I know that it may break.BUT if I need parts I know it will not take a month or better to get stuff(like injectors).I also know if I need service done and I'm in the middle of no where the likely-hood of finding a Cummins shop is MUCH easier than an IH or Izuzu shop.I just can't believe the blind loyalty of some people. They get burned and stranded for weeks at a time and still say"yes, sir may I have another"http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif.O.K. rant DONE...Doug

Point well taken. Good luck with the new one.

I bet there are more GM dealers or Ford dealers around than Cummins shops.
Not that it helps if parts are back ordered. But also don't think for a minute that there are no Dodge guys out there who have had bad luck with their truck who just keep on taking it in the rear because of the logo on the grill.

I haven't been impressed so far with Dodge service but I also haven't had to use it much so far. GM service over all was real good.

I would rather push my GMC any day of the week and twice on Sundays if I had to rather than drive a sheepshead... Trust me I am so brand loyal when I wrecked my 2000 Chevy and they sent out a d**ge wrecker, I made them send it back and bring me a GM wrecker....I also think that there are 5X as many GM and Ford Dealers out there than there are d**ge dealers. There is more money in GM and Ford and I don't mean in terms of service.... Ok Rant done....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Sent back the wrecker???? I'm sorry but that's outright stupid. Not you... but the act of sending back a tow truck cause of the brand.

Yea and some of the stories you read where a guy has had multiple major problems, gets a buyback, gets another one, all along saying how he loves his truck.

I understand insisting on one brand because they have certain features that the others don't have and I don't mean creature comforts, or insisting on a brand because your family works in that company's plants or services them. Those could be significant reasons. But to simply have a brand loyal mindset, thinking you have THE only brand that's any good and you wouldn't even let another brand's wrecker pick yours up..... ? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

What if, God forbid, you get into an accident... will you send away the Powerstroke powered ambulance?

The uber brand loyalty mindset is actually BAD for the quality of the products you buy. When you say you will ONLY buy your truck from a given manufacturer, you're sending the message to that company that it doesn't matter what kind of garbage they put out (not saying GM puts out garbage, just making a point), you will still buy it because it's made by that company. Yes, if you have a good incentive (it suits your needs the best, family connections, etc.) then by all means, buy it. But if there's another company's product that's better and you don't buy it, you're letting your favorite company know they can get away with making inferior products. This is why the American auto industry fell so much in the past few decades and is STILL behind.

I used to have brand loyalty to GM. Then I realized that they really didn't make what I wanted in a car, so I bought a Jag. I bought a used GM truck, it threw a rod and I decided to buy something brand new. Forget about the quality of the Duramax vs. Cummins, a GMC/Chevy equivalent to my new Ram would've cost me several thousand dollars more, and I liked the features of the Ram better. When my mom bought a new car I told her to buy an Infiniti G35 because GM's closest equivalent (the Cadillac CTS) would've cost more money and had worse fit and finish, among other reasons. If I have to earn my money, so do the companies I do business with.

Probably... But then again I would drive a f**d if it was free and brand new with no miles on it and there was nothing else on this earth for me to drive. Then and only then I would drive a f**d, but if the d**ge were it, well guess I would be in damn good shape from either a bicycle or walking...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

It's thanks to you and the millions of others who think the same way about GM, Ford, or Dodge, the American auto industry will be allowed to continue to fall behind, only doing as much as is necessary to satisfy EPA regulations and nothing more. I mean no disrespect or insult to you, just to the kind of attitude you adopt.

My dad said I was un-American for telling my mom to buy an Infiniti (he has the same mentality... if it ain't GM, don't buy it). I told him he had it backwards. I was MORE American for telling her to buy it because I told her to buy it because of its quality, dependability, features, and price, all of which were superior to any American equivalent. Capitalism at work, my friend. That's what's made this country great (among other things), not buying something just because it's made by a certain person or company.

You're right. If it wasn't for our Japanese competition we would probably still be driving Pintos.

Well my 2 cents is this. I grew up a in a GM family. But over the last few years I feel and I said me, that they have really brought what used to be a great truck down. My first truck was 53' chevy that I spent countless hours rebuilding. I loved that truck. But to me they GM do not make trucks any more. It is more like a car with a bed(a bigger el camino). As far diesels are concerend the cummins has proven itself time after time agian. It didn't matter to me who had it but I wanted a cummins. Reliabe and powerful, also I might add I picked it up for about 12000 less than the chevy's that were comparably equiped. As for the dodge name sake well it has trully been a great truck that I can reley on in a spot. It takes what I give it and dosn't miss a stride. The service I'v had at the dealer I go to well honestly I can't complain. They don't say anything about the boxes, exhaust or BHAF. What they do say is wow that is a mean sounding good looking truck and ask me what all I've doe to it and Mabye they should do some thins to thier trucks on the lot. Ford on the other hand well the salesman told if I couldn't find a 7.3 the way I want'ed don't buy one. They had 4 in the shop that noone could figure out what the deal was with that 6.0. All the trucks in my humble openion give us what we expecy hopfully. I only hope that cummins stays avaliable to us in this market. A satisfied cummins operator and dodge owner. If I had it to do all over agian I'd make the same decision any day of the week and twice on sunday. Cliff

I agree... the Cummins is an exceptional diesel and the TRUCK around it keeps getting better.

Good one, hoot! No need to stoop to his level, though. If he hasn't already found out, coming in with statements of superiority really won't get him very far... at least not in this particular forum section.

GMC2500TD, after my most recent experience with my 6.5, I really don't think very highly of them. That said, I still frequent the 6.5 forum and give advice where I can. I don't (and never would) mention how much better I think my new truck is. Nevermind my feelings on the PowerStroke 6.0 or the Duramax (even lower). PowerStroke 7.3 I don't mind, but I still think less of it than the Cummins. Now, all of that said, I would NEVER go make attacks, even rational ones with data to back me up, in the forums that owners of those motors freqent. For that matter, I would only make factual statements when people came to my turf with attacks. There's no point, and everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'm glad you are so confident that you have the best truck in the world. Must be a great feeling. Now if you wouldn't mind, kindly share your feelings of supieriority with those who will back you up. I think that will make everyone happier.

Granted I bought mine in Febuary of 03' I paid 32000 new for mine. and the only thing i didnt have that the chevy had was a allison auto. couldn't find a 6 speed. in chevy or ford. the sticker on the chevy was 46000 they came down to 40000. the ford stickered at 44000 and they were pretty stuck on it. the dodge stickered at 39000 and they offered 32000 with out even asking.

In my opinion,a GM is just that,an over rated Detroit diesel. If anyone out there has ever drove big trucks for a living, you'll know what i mean. The big GM diesel's were cheap and put in the cheapest trucks.I love the Cummins but if Dodge or any other manufacturer puts a CAT in a truck, i'm gonna go broke and buy a 100 of 'em.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

HI,

The Cats are ok. The C12 is now non current because of emissions. If someone puts one of those new Mercedes MB 4000 ( 350HP, 1350 ftpound @ 1100 RPM ) in a truck, I will be buying a few!! And the same goes for Perkins or SISU diesels.... I would buy a few also!!!!

Take care
