: Test Drove NEW LMM Sierra!!! Many Photos!
GMCJOE 03-04-2007, 07:07 PM Hey Everyone! I just got back from test driving the all new GMC Sierra HD LMM Turbo Diesel!!!:D
The truck was a 2007 2500 HD LMM Turbo Diesel 2WD SLT Ext cab/Long bed.
1 word... "AMAZING"!!! ;)
The NEW 2007 LMM had Incredible tire shredding power in every gear. Still had a nice and loud turbo whistle like the LBZ, which almost worried many diesel place guys that it wouldnt (Roadshark) ;) .
Exhaust still had a nice beefy rumble when you got on it. Definately knew you had a "Duramax" under the hood.
It was Super smooth and quiet on the freeway with windows closed. Very easy to hold conversations in the cab. When you got on it though, that turbo whine definately talked to you!
I took a ton of photos for all you guys which I will have up by later today.
I know I get just as frustrated as you when we hear that one of us test drove a new HD, but have no photos to show everyone...
I took many photos of the 07 LMM for all you dieselplace guys to see. I even got on my hands, knees, and stomach to get all angles of photos for you guys under the truck. I didnt care if the sales guy though I was crazy. haha
Heres a couple photos to get you guys started...

I even took a photo for you guys of the window sticker which ill post later after I download all photos to my computer.
While everyone was saying how much more expensive the new Body 07 LMM trucks would be over the old body classic 07 LBZ, it was wrong.
The "FULLY LOADED" SLT Duramax/Allison combo HD truck was Only $44K plus $900 destination charge with A TON of EXTRA options and luxuries over the GMT800 old body trucks. Many of these options are not available for the 07 classic "old body" trucks.
Remember now, this is a Brand New "FULLY LOADED" SLT. This particular 07 truck had many additonal options on top of the SLT leather package...such as:
Built in trailer brake controller, convinience package, adjustable pedals, back up alarm, remote Vehicle start, EZ lift tailgate, locking taligate, Rear power sliding window, HD trailering equipment package, and a few others.
Stay tuned guys, more photos later to come today!

Your such a tease. Thanks for the update. I haven't even seen one on a lot in my neck of the woods yet.
Im uploading and downloading the photos as quick as I can for you guys...
Theyre coming dont worry.;)
The motor sounded great and the exhaust tip was HUGE! THe factory exhaust tip already looked like a big after market exhaust pipe.

rock_shoes 03-04-2007, 07:16 PM Your such a tease. Thanks for the update. I haven't even seen one on a lot in my neck of the woods yet.
Dave H 03-04-2007, 07:22 PM GMCJOE - thankyou for continuing to feed my addiction - I look forward to all your pics and full report. I also have yet to see one on a lot - and I check at least 2x a week!
btfarm 03-04-2007, 07:29 PM I don't know but doesn't 44k seem a bit high for 2wd? I've never considered any thing but 4wd, so maybe that's normal. My loaded '06 was 44k.
On edit, I sure like the looks of it compared to the Chevy. Keep 'em coming...
rock_shoes 03-04-2007, 07:33 PM Good to see the engine compartment isn't a complete cluster$^$@ like the new ford. Do you have any close-ups of the DPF? I'm sure many of the members in the hunt for horsepower would like a good look at their next potential foe.

I didnt get too many pics of the DPF becasue I was too eager to drive the truck. haha.
I took a bunch of photos of a variety of everything on and outside the big massive truck.
The interior is just about identical to the 1500's. Only difference was probably the factory built in trailer brake contoller on this HD.
For an extened cab, it was pretty good size. It was a cool feature that the doors really do open so wide.
One thing I really like is for those guys planning to get the extened cab truck, like this particular one I test drove, is the fact that the rear windows are power and roll down fully as if it is a crew cab.
I used to have a 98 silverado Ext cab and I hated the wing windows in the back. I always wished that my 98 truck had power roll down rear windows.

Its nice. If you have driven an LBZ how would you compare the two?..I definately prefer the look of the Chev though..Mine should hopefully arrive at the dealer this week..
RoadShark 03-04-2007, 08:03 PM Thanks Joe!! You da man! That's great news for sure - the whine lives! :) Now we just need a way to put a cat-back on it ;)
truckie481 03-04-2007, 08:22 PM Pics are great, you are da man! I heard that the tow mirrors were more horizontal than they are on the 07's what did you think of them? I like the way they look in pics.

Kinda wierd, the GMC HD I saw has different door panels. The arm rest had a vertical handle up front by the window controls with a billet aluminum accent and now that I think about it the dash was different also. These pics look like my 2007 Tahoe (wood/aluminum) Both the GMC and Chevy HD trucks that I have seen locally had different interiors than this. Wonder why????
GMCJOE 03-04-2007, 08:29 PM Pics are great, you are da man! I heard that the tow mirrors were more horizontal than they are on the 07's what did you think of them? I like the way they look in pics.
Thanks! And your very welcome!:)
I knew you guys would enjoy the photos as much as I would, so thats why I took so many for you guys. I still have alot more of the exterior, front and back.
I also have a few photos comparing the stock heaight 2500 HD next to a 6 inch lifted 1500 GMC sierra too.
Yes, the new tow mirrors are in fact level and more horizontal. It was very easy to see out of them and the new angle adjustment button was easy to use. I think the level mirrors do look much better in person.

The one you saw was probably the "work truck" interior. That interior is the base model type look.
There are 2 different interiors this year on the new 07 trucks.
This interior I posted of this truck is the top-of-the-line "SLT" interior. It even has an option of a touch screen Voice recognition navigation system on the SLT 07 GMC Sierras and Silverados.
Im definately plannin on goin for the built-in Navi screen on my 07...;)
Now heres some of the ones youve all be waitin for!
The Exterior truck shots.
Gives you a good idea of how BIG and Awesome that front end is!
I took a bunch of photos of all angles for you guys to see. Also shos the level mirrors and HUGE Grille.
The crystal clear headlights look great too!

Because the chevy LTZ and GMC SLT are the SUV interiors and the lower trims are the "truck" dash.
GMCJOE: I'm glad you got some pics!!! I went by the GMC dealer and the DID NOT HAVE ONE HD on the lot AT ALL :(
For those that wanted a shot of the DPF look here in a few of the shots you can see it (it's a chevy though)

DURAtotheMAX 03-04-2007, 09:05 PM looks good Joe, glad to hear you got to go for a test drive in them, I know you've been waiting a long time for this! :D
If you take the body off, the -900's are basically identical to the -800's. Only real difference is some added crossmembers to hold up the DPF and stuff. Should be nice because now aftermarket drivetrain accessories will basically interchange between the -800 HD's and -900 HD's.
I realllllyyy like that new integrated brake controller...damn them for switching the data bus to GMLAN, otherwise Id retrofit it into my truck... :(
ben
Dave H 03-04-2007, 09:20 PM I like!!! Hope to see one up here soon!
bagofdimes 03-04-2007, 09:21 PM That sure does look ALOT nicer than the Chevy I saw last week. The hood and bumper looks better for sure in my opinion. Looks like it sits pretty high for a 2WD. I was a bit surprised by the $44K pricetag for the 2WD though...but It was loaded... The stock alloys look pretty good too.
Thanks for the pics. Glad you got to test drive one...wasn't sure how much longer you were going to make it without taking one out!
kongdually 03-04-2007, 09:29 PM I know I'm going to get flamed for this, I realize if you are going to tow, you need large mirrors, but I've always thought they looked way out of place on a SRW truck. A guy from work has a new 1500 with those mirrors, and we all think, including the owner, that they look retarded....Kong

Quiky One 03-04-2007, 10:00 PM Thanks for the pictures! I'm not sure if I'm sold on the the dash but it will grow on my. The one thing I dont like is how the stereo is incorportated into the whole dash. That way you cant upgrade or probably even take it out to install an ipod adapter. What are you thoughts?
Also, do you or anyone happen to have pictures of the instruments?

Look at the photo of the interior of this new 07 Silverado truck. Same as GMC Sierra.
It has ipod capabilites built into the truck already.

the ipod adaptor is built into the radio. you "should be able to" take out the radio and pit in a "flat screen" doubble din radio (I say should because I have not looked into an LTZ/SLT intiorior since I got my 05 burb. I was looking at 07's)
edit: Joe beat me too it. looking at the radio in the pic above I think a Doubble din will fit fine.
WilliamBos 03-04-2007, 10:16 PM OMFG!! Damn that sits nice and tall for a 2WD. Hopefully the 4WD sit a little taller!! :D

Im working with one of the fleet managers out here which is actually the one who told me about this particular LMM truck. We did go over options and everything. He ordered 1 exactly the way I want it. Still wont be some time until it arrives though.
I heard that extened cab HD trucks were the ones built first, but Im goin Crew Cab this time around.;)
Ive been this patient so far, so I think I can hold out a lil while longer. This new truck is Definately worth the wait!

Looks like Simpson GMC in Buena Park.
Not jacking your thread here.... Damn I could really get used to livin in The OC. Looks nice and sunny.
But it comes at a huge price - lots and lots of heavy traffic. Getting off work every day, it often takes me 20 minutes just to drive 2 miles to the freeway onramp. Sitting at intersections waiting through multiple traffic light cycles because there's no place to go even though the light's green. Finally I get on the freeway, and it's total gridlock. Althogether it takes me an hour & a half to get home - a 20 min drive if not for all the traffic. & in OC it's even worse. Think ya could live with that better than the snow? :D
JMann2380 03-04-2007, 11:33 PM I really like the look of the exterior, but man I like my LBZ interior so much more. I sat in a couple of new HD's at the Cleveland auto show and hated the center console, it seem wider or something and my knee kept hitting it. It wasn't attached to the dash either so it would rock back and forth. The buttons, dials, etc all small and flimsy and symmetrical looking alot like my dads F150. Also the dumbest thing they did was make the back seat fold up like the extended cabs, it takes up so much room and there is no flat floor for my dog...just dumb.
Duramaxed06 03-05-2007, 12:54 AM You Dick!! Why didn't you call me!!

mojoe01 03-05-2007, 01:01 AM SWEET!!!!! It is getting better and better! What did the tach go to on this truck and what did the oil pressure go to?
Oil pressure still goes to 120 and tach goes to 5000 on these new trucks.
DURAtotheMAX 03-05-2007, 10:30 AM Nice truck. GMC is good looking, for sure. I like the new wheels....I guess the PY0's have finally been retired.
The 17" wheels are an option Tom. PY0's are still around as standard :)
pjappraiser 03-05-2007, 11:01 AM Makes me anxious. My CC Chevy was built last Thursday. Still trying to decide if I'm painting the bumper tips or not. Thanks Joe
rock_shoes 03-05-2007, 11:17 AM The new interior looks awsome. I like the layout of the guage cluster in particular. Nice and clean.
jodavis 03-05-2007, 11:44 AM Dang I need to like my LBZ for like six more years to pay it off. Now I want one. This sucks. Oh well guess I should go wash my truck its good therapy

Jodavis,
Our 2006s are STILL beautiful. And well proved, which is something the new body-style and LMM most certainly are not.
Count your numerous blessings, my friend. Our trucks are still very cool.

tbyrne 03-05-2007, 01:08 PM Do these mirrors have directionals built into them? Also, I think 3.73 is the only gear option for the LMM?

Tom
Yes, I think I remeber that truck with the tow mirrors did have turn directional lights built into them. I didnt really pay attention to them so much because I was concentrating more on the sound, power, and tire roasting ability of the truck when I was driving...
It passed all tests with an A++
On those mirrors though, just to be sure, I think Ill have to go test drive it again!!:D

WilliamBos 03-05-2007, 06:36 PM Looks like Simpson GMC in Buena Park.
Try this on for size, 24 miles 2 hours 45 minutes. the last 10 miles took 2 hours. The white outs were so bad that at times first gear was too fast, and most of the drive was in first. The trees in the pic I attached were barely visible. Damn snow!!
Electro 03-05-2007, 07:15 PM Hey gmcjoe,
Where are you in Buena Park? Lived there for 30 years, now sittin in Denver. If I remember correctly it's always nice out there. :)
The truck looks very nice. Thanks for the up close pics.
Electro 03-05-2007, 07:17 PM also does anybody know if GM's going to make more 1 tom srw GMC's? would love to look at a 1 ton srw long bed fully loaded. Seems they never hit that market compared to the Fords.

On the Chevy, according to the brochure the directionals in the mirrors are available for both regulat and tow mirrors. There were a total of 5 mirror options depending on trim level ect.
Buckeye03 03-05-2007, 08:58 PM Anybody else notice that they took away the trans temp gauge? The literature says it's part of the DIC now. I looked at a few new trucks on the lot on Sunday and I didn't see any trans temp gauges.
Overall I'm impressed with the look, both interior and exterior. The big chrome bumper ends on the Chevy looks a little funky, but fog lights break it up a little and it doesn't look so bad.

Jwsunset 03-05-2007, 10:07 PM S****, I just got my lbz, and you gotta go posting things like this. At least let me have owned mine for a year before I gotta go trade it in. The engine bay looks strikingly like the lbz. :D
ockgator 03-05-2007, 10:34 PM The seats don't look as formed as the ones on my 02, are they comfy or stiff as a board?
Notes to GM
1: Where's the tranny temp gage??? Putting it in the DIC is plain stupid
2: BRING BACK THE BIG BLOCK
3: Offer SFA as an option
4: Lose the pizza cutters. 275's minimum, and 4.10 gears please.
Smashed Ixnay 03-05-2007, 11:29 PM Looks a little better than the 1500, IMO. I still prefer the look of the Ford, but I will admit this truck has gained a few points in my book. I think I'd still prefer to have an LBZ classic over the LMM. I'll have to see some in person thought.
Hey, been told the bumper corners on the chevy are plastic, might make them easier to paint.
Inside looks like my wifes 07 subarban, almost to nice for a truck to work out of.
dlewis1340 03-06-2007, 08:51 AM I can confirm that the chevy 2500 & 3500 bumper corners are indeed plastic (chrome plated). They can easily be painted to match color of truck. I am betting that painting these is one of the most popular mods for the HD's out of the gate.
Stick your head in the fenderwell and you can see the back side of it or tap it with a ring and you can hear the difference between the encaps and the center section.
Wolford 03-06-2007, 10:15 AM May have already been asked, but do they come with a 4 inch exhaust now??
Ranger22 03-06-2007, 10:20 AM I saw these trucks at the Texas State Fair for thier official public release. The exhuast looks like a 3" exhaust and the tip expands to 4". It kinda looks strange to me because it doesn't expand like the tips we are familiar with, it looks more like a horn. Take a close look and you'll know what I mean.
ChosenOne 03-06-2007, 11:02 AM GMCJoe,
Great post and pics. Thanks.
couple of observations
1. Still looks too much like a Ford SuperDuty to me but I do like it.
2. Sad to see they are still using that sorry excuse for a front suspension. Nice tierods on a HD truck...they look like tooth picks they are so small. I like the idea of the independent front suspension but the General NEEDS to beef up that POS.
3. 44k for a loaded 2wheel drive is somewhat higher than previous years but well short of the crazy speculative pricing that has been discussed here.
4. With that billboard for a front end...I can see the LMM section being clogged with mileage posts just like the LBZ section.
Just my thoughts...
Thanks again for your efforts.
Dave H 03-06-2007, 11:16 AM I saw one yesterday in St. Catharines. It was a 2500HD xt.cab 8' box 4x4, SLE interior, LMM. I asked to drive it, but it was ordered in for GE Capital - I couldn't care less, but they were insistent. He said he would call next week when he expects 2 more white ones to come in for a local construction co.
I know - no pics - I've got to start carrying the camera to verify these accounts - it was at John Bear, St. Catharines.
Montana Mike 03-06-2007, 01:41 PM Love that Truck and thats my Color outside and int. GMC for me and thanks for all the pics and info Joe. Keep then coming. Mike
bonz02 03-06-2007, 05:05 PM Just got home from driving a cc/lmm LT1 silver birch in color. Dealer here in Holland just got it in today. I can't say it drove or rode any better than my 06', however it think the cab is quieter inside than my 06'. It has plenty of power and it is a very nice ride, but I'm not ready to give up my 06' for it, just my opinion.
My94chevy 03-06-2007, 05:58 PM I like the looks of the GMC better than the Chevy I think Chevy needs to take a few lessons off of GMC. But dont get me wrong I love Chevy I just think they need to rethink the looks of their trucks.
Idahoguy 03-06-2007, 07:10 PM You guys notice where the trailer wiring plug is now? I looked at one at the dealer the other day and I'm not sure the pigtail on my boat trailer would reach that far....especially on a hard right turn.
aychdee 03-06-2007, 10:09 PM Anyone notice the 3 bolt flange at the muffler. Looks like a header flange!!!! Shot canning the Factory muffler looks like it'll be easier than ever for an aftermarket... maybe even a cherry bomb.... ahhh the good ol' days
Minn-Kota 03-06-2007, 11:08 PM I don't know but doesn't 44k seem a bit high for 2wd?
:iamwithst
I've seen a few at various lots in the area the past few weeks but never stopped to look as they don't interest me much. There's a handful of 1/2 tons at the local dealer that haven't moved in a long time. Apparently I'm not the only one.

From inside the cab was it as quiet as a gasser? Aside from the turbo, was there anything at all sound-wise while driving to set it apart from gas trucks, atleast a little?
dmax07 03-07-2007, 09:25 PM Defenetelly man there still that diesel sound out there I guess all they did was insulate the cab from the engine comparment but the outside I will totally say is an Lbz with a new body on it so don't worry Roadshark all the nice noise is still there and I mean every single bit of it.I was begining to worry my self as well that's why I went to testdrive it today to make sure, and I came home happy by the way the dpf is way smaller than the one on the super dutiesFrom inside the cab was it as quiet as a gasser? Cloughm 03-07-2007, 10:38 PM I 've already had 3 new trucks in the past 3 years. Man I got myself in a bad habit. I love the new 07. Think i'll wait till there is some engine mods out to upgrad to the 07 or 08 LMM. Took long enough for the LBZ engine mods.
Can't wait to go test drive one myself!!!! Thanks for pics GMCJOE

I like the looks of the new one, the fender flares and tailgate are the only turn off's for me also, not that the flares on my 06 are all that attractive either though. If I was in the market for a new truck I would jump all over the Chevy CC Dually. I love the way the front fenders blend with the fat arse of a Dually!! I have real no need for a Dually, I was going to purchase one in 03 but went with SRW, I told myself the next time I purchased a new one it was going to be a Dually, the wife pressured me just to get another SRW when I was shopping for my 06 and I succumb to the pressure, never again though!! I will own a dually the next time around period...... I prefer the looks of the GMC SRW over the Chevy SRW, but when it comes to the Dually the Chevy wins in my book; and the only real reason is the front fenders!!:eyecrazy:

datsbad 03-08-2007, 12:05 AM I wonder what a fully loaded CC DUALLY WILL be priced at and what we could get for a deal , 4X4 ? Leather and all options.
I just Bought a 07, CC DUALLY, 4X4 LT3 , DMAX FOR UNDER 38K Brand new. I suspect I would have paid 10k more for a new body truck .

Exactly! The new 07 Dmax had basically as much, if not more power than the LBZ even with the DPF that everyone was worrying about. All those worries of the LMM having a "feeling" of less power than the LBZ, and possibly being too quiet has been put to rest.
That LMM motor screams for sure when you mash the pedal. Not only does it scream, but it does it in style with that new smooth tuff lookin body. When I was driving it around town, you should have seen some of the guys faces on the road driving Power strokes. This one powerstroke Ford guy had a look of AW. Looked like he wished he had the truck I was driving instead of his, seriosuly.
Yes, your'e also right about the sound. The turbo was still nice and loud as well as the duramax rumble. The only quietness like you said was from inside the cab when your driving on the highway. I heard that the new 07 body trucks utilize much tighter tollerances and gaps in the body lines to create a better wind resistance factor.
The upgrades to the new body 07 were evindet in the smoothness and less wind noise in the cab.
I really hope the 07 CCs come in soon. Im gettin anxious.:)

Cloughm 03-08-2007, 11:16 AM Doubt it, look at the perfect reflection in the black you can see the trees in the back ground and the road below the truck. They should make the whole bumper black. Looks a little classer. In my opinion.

Wait until it's modded! :) The LMM has 55hp and 70ft-lb more than my LLY did when it was stock. That's only 2 model years later. That truck felt pretty good stock and it's much better with a Westers race tune. That program for the new motor is going to be great! Will probably be looking at 500+hp at the wheels.

The company is called Westers Garage. They do tuning for many different vehicles including the GM trucks. They usually either have cores or you can send them your computer, they tune it and then send it back to you. Works very well!

It is a 2WD GMC, but that has nothing to do with the placement of the Duramax badge, if that's what you meant. On the new GMC's it remains on the door, you can see it in this pic above the HD badge: http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/9606/picsofme11572fk4.jpg
