: not going biodiesel

Well y'all, I was thinking I'd give bio a try, since we have a station here in town that sells it. i knew to pick up a couple extra fuel filters for the first 200 miles. i was excited about the lubricity and cleanliness of bio and how it likely would make my truck last much longer, then it occurred to me that with all the cleaning going on in the engine from the much cleaner fuel, my 281k mile engine would probably spring a few leaks. I'm already leaking slightly from the rear main seal, and don't feel like pulling the tranny to replace that. Am i just paranoid, or would bio wash my seals out, taking all the soot and grease that's holding my engine together away?

Don't worry about it, Nate. Just go ahead and use it like you were going to. Carrying extra fuel filters is a good idea no matter what fuel you are using!!

Yeah you are fine. It cleans the sludge in the fuel tank and lines. I would run it! The fuel isn't any thinner. And oil/fuel "shouldn't" mix so you won't have to worry about oil leaks at the rear main.

I would hold off on Bio of more than b5. You will have a lot of problems and changinf the filter a lot will get old and expensive. Also you probably will find a few fuel system leaks too. I have a fleet customer that is having some extreme problems with all of their trucks that are more than 6 years old. They put nice clean bright green diesel in their tanks. Withing minutes you can siphon fuel samples out of the tank and it black and blue. They can't get more than 6-7K miles out of the filters and they typically get 25-30K with primary and secondary filters.

People with newr trucks will use bio with more success since they won't have years of build up in the tank and lines.

I have biodiesel running in a tractor that is about 30 years old.. no problems.

I also have a couple of customers that have early 90's dodges that run my fuel straight b100 with zero problems. In fact, they brag that the old 12 valves dont hammer so hard.
