If you go by the specs the Mobil-1 M1-303 is the best filter available for the Duramax followed by the Baldwin B1441. Other good choices are AC Delco, WIX, & Fleetguard... Also be sure to use a CH-4/CI-4 rated 5W40 or 15W40 Diesel Oil.

The Oil Life indicator is reset by holding the enter key (lower right) while the %oil life display is active ... If you have the steering wheel buttons...

Jim, Thanks for adding the accelerator pedal method..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif ... do you know if this also works on the trucks with the steering wheel buttons?

worked on mine with the buttons, good thing too since I didn't know about pushing the button http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif Things still work like they did on my 1999 1/2 ton gasser.

It would be nice to have the specs on the K&N filter too... Haven't seen them posted anywhere ... You could try contacting K&N and asking them for there "Beta" specs (see Filter Performance & Micron Ratings (http://www.baldwinfilters.com/engineer/95_11.html) for more info on Beta specs)

Specs for the M1-303 and B1441 are

Mobli-1 M1-303

Nominal efficiency: 5 microns (Beta=2, 50%)
Absolute efficiency: 18 microns (Beta=75, 98.7%)

Baldwin B1441

Nominal efficiency: 8 microns (Beta=2, 50%)
Absolute efficiency: 23 microns (Beta=75, 98.7%)

To answer K&N question if I may. K&N is designed to capture 5 or larger micon sized material. Whereas your everyday Fram air filter will catch down to 3 micons and has a better cfm rating (cubic feet per minute) than K&N.

On the oil filter question all suggestions excellent, Fram also offers there tough gaurd filters that actually come off the same assembly line as the mobil, just a little less expensive. Royal purple is an excellent oil. I drove semi for Arrow trucking in Tulsa OK and we extended oil intervals from 15,000 to 40,000.

I run a chevy suburban w/ a 454 using Lucas additive at 30% and change oil every 5000, to 6000 miles depending on use. Over 200k on odom no major componant failure can't be wrong.
