: Diesel exhaust questions?

I've got an '83 K5 blazer that, while tranny problems are currently the most pertinent issue, the next pertinent issue is definitely going to be the exhaust, or whats left of it. While its got newish looking mufflers the rest of the piping is pretty crappy and the hangers aren't hanging anything for the most part.

My question is this:

1) I intend on doing the new exhaust myself and have the tools to do so, and I like the look of exhaust that exits right behind the doors under the "tub" area but ahead of the wheel well. I would probably have it exit at approximately a 45 degree angle so it wouldn't be pointing at the tire, but some exhaust would probably be directed at them at highway speeds. Would I see a negative effect on tire wear or discoloration if I do so? Tires are BFGoodrich 33x10.5" and I don't want to replace them if this will damage them at all.

2) Would a diesel see a positive HP/TQ output effect by adding an "X" pipe for scavenging?

3) Regardless of setup, the truck will have dual exhaust. How big of pipe should I use?
