I have a 1997 F-250HD Powerstroke with only 82K miles.

Two days Ago it was driving really well, yesterady morning I tried to start it but it wouldn't kick on. There was no smell of diesel, like it has had before on a cold start. It Cranks over just fine has plenty of juice in the battries. It just will not provide fuel to the engine. There are no mod's, it stock except for K&N stock replacement filter. I allready checked the pressure valve on the fuel filter/water seporator. When you crank the engine diesel comes out a a slow pace, its not a spray. And I did the Ether test on the glow plugs, they work fine. Does this thing have an electric fuel pump or is it just the mechanical pump behind the fuel filter? Please Help it's driving me nutz.

Is the tach working? If not it more than likely is the CPS(cam position sensor). It is located on the front cover, down low,on the right side of the balancer.Common problem.Easy to change by removing the wire and 10 mm bolt.As far as I know there is only one transfer pump on the older Power-strokes,the one in the valley behind the filter...Doug

Try unplugging the CPS and clean connectors, the list little bit of corrosion or dirt will give bad/no readings. Had one do this yesterday at work.

if your tach is working wile you crank, the CPS is most likely fine. Yiu need to plug in one of those scan tools and see if your HPOP is building sufficient oil pressure to fire (500-3000 psi).

As a related issue it could be the ICP or the IPR valve as they are crucial components in that process
