i keep hearing about this #2 fuel where is it and whats the advantage

also if any once cares the dealer told me that i got a bad batch of fuel and that the truck was no started properly and thats why it was smoking and knocking. he said run the tank down to 3/4(he said never run it lower than that) 4-5 times with additives and it should clear up.

Are you talking about red diesel? If so it is for farm tractors, and has a higher sulfer content. It is cheaper than road diesel, but do not get caught with it in you truck. BIG FINE!!!!!

Red diesel is Off road fuel - Home Heating oil. Number 2 is pump fuel for on the road use with all additive packages and suppose to be with in specs set forth by our Government for a clean emission burn, cleanliness and Min Cetane rating. There is also a Premium in this grade as I understand it,bumped up additives.

People say all #2 as in no alternative fuel as in Propane or supplemental air as in Nitrous,Drug free!!

# 2 Diesel fuel is summer fuel. It has more cetane to it but it gels when it gets cold out. # 1 fuel is used in the winter. It gels at a much colder temp but the cetane is much lower. Sucks on power but at least it doesn't freeze!

Here's a good link for info on Diesel Fuel

Chevron Diesel Fuels (http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuels/bulletin/diesel/)

Diesel Fuel: Related Products (http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuels/bulletin/diesel/L2_1_1_fs.htm)

"Some petroleum products have similar, but not identical,
specifications and physical properties. For example, No. 2 fuel oil
and No. 2-GT gas turbine fuel are similar to No. 2-D diesel fuel.
And No. 1-GT gas turbine fuel oil, Jet A Aviation Turbine Fuel,
and kerosine, the product specifically sold for use in lamps and
stoves, are similar to No. 1-D diesel fuel.5

The specifications for each product are developed to ensure that it
is suitable for the intended use. The fuel properties needed to keep
a lamp burning are not nearly so stringent as those required to
keep a jet aircraft aloft. Products with similar physical properties
should not be used interchangeably without a complete
understanding of the requirements of the intended use. "

#2 taxed and offroad diesel are the same thing in this area except for red die. #2 fuel oil is also. BUT THEY DON"T HAVE TO BE. #1(Kerosine) is blended into diesel in the winter. #2 fuel oil always has some. I was told that it is too expensive to ship in 3 different fuel grades. I know a guy that has run his VW pickup on #2 fuel oil for 15 years with no problem. Just don't get caught. I bet there is a waranty issue also. A big risk on a new truck $$$$$$$$$
