: ATS copilot HELP!!

I installed the co-pilot on my 03' today. Long story short, got everything installed and the first time: it wouldn't shift out of first gear, with a speedometer working, check engine light was on and the codes where p0700 "TCM malfunction" and p0474 "A trim stuck open" Took apart and worked the valve in and out till it went smoothly.

NOW, I put it into reverse and backed up then drive, moved about three feet, and it was like it got slamed into park. about ten or fifteen times to get it back into the driveway. The little bit of movement didn't cause any codes on the pcm or tcm?? any ideas?

I am guessing either a wire fell off while installing the pan, or A or B trims are sticking again??? Just ran out of daylight today to work on it and I really need the truck tomorrow afternoon. Any help would be helpful.
Thanks, Jon

Was the tranny already done with the Transgo and converter or is this the first time rebuilding.

If there was no problem before the ATS Co-Pilot then maybe it is just a wire........

Maybe Mike L. can help........

Good Luck.

Yeah have talked to him once and he was closed by the time I fixed the A trim. Otherwise I'll try him tomorrow morning. Just trying to get a jump on it, with the two hour delay.. I have the transgo with a converter but the converter went out on vacation so I made it to ATS and had them put in the tripple lock kit, and I was going to install the the ATS co-pilot to have the full ATS transmission and the extra hold power from the Co-pilot. When they installed the tripple lock my stock clutchs were fried. So, I was looking for more line preasure. Now just need to find out why it doesn't shift. I will know more when I pull the pan off tomorrow morning. The one time I was putting the pan on and had to put it down when I dropped a bolt and lowered the pan and nocked off one of the A trim connector.
So, time will tell other wise i was wondering if anyone else has heard of these problems.

I would check your pins on the wiring harness between the stock allison harness and the co-pilot harness. Also make sure the solenoid plugs are tight. Did the line go into the extra solenoid alright?

You caught me at a bad time. Call me back in the am and give me the code you pulled and I will try and help. This might be a little tuff not knowing if you did the wire connections correct. I am not an expert on the co pilot but it seems I will be installing a couple pretty soon.

I think I had something similar when I forgot to plug in the speed sensor after a trans mod. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

As I recall it was on top of my transfer case, and kinda hard to see. Hope this helps. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

How hard is the ATS Co-Pilot install? What does it entail?

Trippin did you install your Co-Pilot yourself?

Tom's Transmission in Canyon Country did the original install of converter, clutches and Copilot. I just did the external wiring for the Co-Pilot.

Your funny MAChttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Y2K, you should be able to install the complete co-pilot in a couple of hours, you have to drop the pan, change the wiring harness down there, pull a steel line off and cut an inch out of it to add ATS's extra solenoid, change a spring behind a solenoid. On the wiring harness in the engine bay you need to tap into the boost sensor, the tcm wiring harness if you dont want a speed limiter and solder to the back of the instrument cluster to engage converter lockup when t/h is on. Also has a wire if you have an exhaust brake, oh and hook up a ground. Its not bad at all to install.

Ended up removing the valve body from the transmission kind of messey but it worked took it out and worked the A and B trim valves they both where a little sticky and removed a small bur of the end of each. Then they work great installed and drove good... that is for not being able to reset the tap cells with a tech II get the rough shift of the slight out of place shift as it relearns slowly. It is getting better as I drive it maybe have 30 miles on it now, a few more to go before it's relearned.
Thanks for the help,
Jon
One other thing when you remove the speed limiter with the co-pilot does the speedometer read over 98? I had it up there and the rpms were into the red line but it was only reading 98, I know I was going faster than that.

The speedo stops at 97-98 but the truck just keeps accelerating to 3200rpm unless you have a tuner that fuels above there then it will accelerate to 4500rpm

So Jon, now that you have trans upgrades, you should REALLY get the power to the ground...

I would think the relearn is almost done... I set it to fast learn with a Tech 2 but wasn't able to clear tap cell tried for a while and just couldn't get it to go. The only thing is with the trango installed I have found that I need to keep the shift firmness on the lowest setting other wise they are quite harsh, with the sub level on one so the preasure increase as soon as possible with the boost building. The only thing that I am having issues with now is that when in normal mode "not tow haul" when coming up to a stop it sometimes down shifts to second and first pretty hard.. They seem to be getting better but I still end up with a hard one once and while. Or once and a while if I have been getting into it and then just drive normal it will sometimes feel like it shifts twice you get a surge and then another normally going into fourth. Give it a little more time to come around. The Tow Haul shifts seem to be fine though.

After surveying those who've had better luck than I with the TAS trans, I find that they tend to drive with the Copilot off most of the time, and turn it on at the track or to race...

Those hard down shifts should go away pretty quickly. Try turning the Co-Pilot off for a few days.

FYI, I drive around with the Co-Pilot off and turn it on for racing.
