Are you familiar with the vacuum actuated waste gate system? It consists of a vacuum pump, lines, and a solenoid that sits on the driver's side valve cover behind the intake plenum. Lines should have ~25 "Hg before the solenoid and ~15"Hg after. No vacuum after the solenoid would indicate solenoid failure or bad PCM signal/ground(test with 12v tester or multimeter while idleing).

now might be a good time to think about a turbomaster..........

"now might be a good time to think about a turbomaster........."

What is it, and where do I get one?

QMech, I have a solenoid on the passenger side, is that the one you are referring to?

The solenoid I'm refering to has vacuum lines coming into it and a two wire connector off the wiring harness. It generally sits on the top of the engine to the driverside on a bracket to the rear of the intake manifold.

Heath diesel sells the turbo master. It's an adjustable waste gate spring that replaces the vacuum system. I'm in favor of a properly working vac system but simplicity sometimes wins.

the wastegate solenoid is located on the drivers side, above the valve cover. there will be plastic lines runnin from the vaccum pump to it and from it to the turbo.

www.heathdiesel.com (http://www.heathdiesel.com) sells the turbomaster. some people will disagree, but others will agree that this is a wise investment. instead of taking the chance and having problems with the wastegate solenoid and the vaccum lines and the vaccum pump, the turbomaster is a very simple system that is also very reliable and very inexpensive compared to the cost of a new vaccum pump and wastegate solenoid. $89.00. i installed mine in 20 minutes with the easy to use instructions.

just my 2 cents.....
