The paint is coming off of my radio controls. (on the steering wheel) is that covered under warranty? Also has anyone had a strange noise when turning your steering wheel?

The only strange noise is when my wife is in the passenger seat and I'm on level 5 getting onto the freeway! :)

The 3yr/36,000 warranty should cover the radio. I don't think it falls under the "normal wear" items list...

But, then again, you never know. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

It was covered on the '95 I had when the knobs cracked. Is it wearing off or pealing?

You may have a hard time with this one, due to the fact that paint may come off if you have some sort of chemical on your fingers, like hand lotion, oil, dirt, etc. Do you use the controls alot?

I am schedualed to go in and have them check out my steering shaft. It is making a squeak when I turn slowly in a curtain angle. They say it could be a bearing, and I don't want to mess with it because of the air bag.

It just depends what dealer you take it to i think. At the dealer near me, the service writer will do almost anything that needs to be done. Doesn't even care about the juice on my truck.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifBe careful about leaving any mod on a truck when you take it in. There might be a GM rep. there to void your warranty on the spot. Won't happen you say, It happened to a guy with a f*rd 2 weeks old. I know that you have a chevy, but the dealer WILL COVER HIS A$$.

You'd think that it'd be covered under warranty.

Would be funny for them to say, Oh that juice with attitude has so much power, when you take off the paint and coatings on the knobs will not hold onhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil%20Smile.gif. Well we are not going to fix the radio and by the way, you warranty is VOIDED.... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Speaking of warranty coverage,

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but has anyone had experience with the GM warranty and the paint that's on these trucks? I've got 5 or 6 chips on my paint, all of which are on the cab from the door handles up. (So I know it's not rocks from the road)

It's such a PITA for me to go to the dealer, I don't want to waste my time if it's a lost cause. That being said, if anyone's got experience in this area that they'd like to share I'd greatly appreciate it.

If it is a chip it should have a sharp edges, if it is flaking paint it should have signs of the paint that is still there starting to pull up as well from the paint that came off.

I have had rocks take wild rides and shoot back at me at take out a rear side window.

I know there was an issue with the 90's model silver paint on GM and I think Ford also peeling off.

Thanks for all the replies guys. From what I can tell it has flaked off. I think that I may have gotten to the bottom of some of the steering noise. The power steering fluid is low. I can thank the dealer for that. They had it a few weeks ago doing some service and that was one of them. I will be speaking to them about that. I still have some noise, but I will fill it and see if that eliminates part of it. My paint on my truck is not bad yet, I just have trouble getting spots off of the rocker panels. They look like metal flakes that have rusted on the rocker panels. So in a way I do have paint issues. I was told that I could get it off with something called "clay bar". Anybody else got this. My truck is white, so it kinda shows.

Thanks

Clay bars are easy to use and work great. It will leave your truck feeling better than new. And after you clay bar the truck the wax you put on will work better also.
