Hi guys. Getting my '83 K5/6.2/700r4 back together (again) this weekend. Before I left for school I was having problems with the tranny (thought I misaligned the TC and had leakage problems, turned out the TC had a hole in it by one of the "feet" that attaches it to the flexplate). So I got a new tranny, and once I get it together I'm going to want to go for some more power, and I have a few questions.

1) How much HP/Torque can I expect to get switching from an EGR manifold to non-EGR and doing away with the EGR equipment? I know it isn't much but curious anyways.

2) The exhaust on my truck was done by a shadetree mechanic and not very well, so I'm considering replacing it relatively soon. Do diesels get the same benefits of scavenging by including some sort of X-pipe in the exhaust or shouldn't I even bother? Also since I'm doing this myself, with factory manifolds, how big of exhaust pipe should I run?

3) I like the look of having exhaust exit below the rockers just behind the doors...if they angled out would I see any negative effects on my tires? Tires on truck now are BFgoodrich 33x10.5's and rather pricey to replace the rears often if the diesel exhaust gasses are going to destroy the rubber.

4) How much HP/Tq/0-60 time improvement would I see with a propane system on the 6.2 with the non-egr manifold? I've seen kits on ebay for $199 that are fully adjustable and meant to be used on NA vehicles which makes me curious. Says that they can be adjusted anywhere from 4lbs propane to 1 gallon diesel on down depending on performance gains wanted.

Here is an article that should answer some questions about adding propane.

Dude I can't tell ya how much hp stronger it runs but getting rid of the EGR Bull SHEET is the way to go I did it on mine and it helped a lot. When I bought my truck it had the egr stuck open and pluged mufflers from all the soot build up. THis truck would litterally NOT get out of its own way. Just replacing pluged mufflers and getting rid of the egr stuff made worlds of difference. It is fun to drive and doesn't smoke anymore.

I would start with loosing the egr intake manifold and see how you like it. Then if you want more power have pump tweeked and/or injectors. I think Kennedy Diesel has "high flow" injectors for the 6.2 .

Dual exhaust is awsome on the 6.2 with the open intake manifold it is very loud and rapps like a inner city youth.....lol

On edit: I have spare engine with open intake manifold for future plans http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: SledKing
