I just dropped my truck off for a couple last minute warranty fixes. Squeaky clutch pedal and steering gear box. I just got a Quad and have been playing around with it. I made sure I unloaded it just in case today. Boy what a slow ride home!!! The FIRST thing the service guy said as he turned the key to check mileage is "Have you loaded a tuner yet?" I thought WTF is this guy psychic??? I played dumb and said no. He goes on to tell me he just loaded a Hypertech into a Dmax. While writing up the work order I say I should look into it now my truck's out of warranty. To which he replied a tuner won't void your warranty.

The moral of the story. Those surveys GM sends in the mail have a direct effect on your service writer. Mine had just received both of my previous ones the day before. The quickest way to get on their good side is all excellents and let GM forward your name back so they know you did them right.

"To which he replied a tuner won't void your warranty"

Like I have mentioned before, be carefull. It wont void your warranty when truck is running fine, but when/if it comes in broke, that may be a different story. GM is well aware of whats available on these....

I hear ya. It's kinda like asking cops about how far you can push a law before it's broke. In the end they still have to do their job.

My service guy told me did not matter what I did to my truck and how I ran it as long as when I brought it in for service of ANY kind that it was returned to stock with no VISIBLE signs that anything had been installed. I will not be taking any chances. They are just looking for an excuse to make you pay for anything that goes wrong...

Only for the exhaust and intake portions of your warranty.....

One here in Kentucky as well. Thanks Smokin MAx!!!!!! At least someone here is on our side. Dealers down here start to question if the exhaust is had tampered with, or gauges installed. One local dealer advised that if even a K&N was installed warranty would be void.

Sage advise dmaxalliTech!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Best to be very, very careful here guys! Service writers come and go, often fired! In the event of a warranty repair GM is explicit in their language that no implied warranties can be given by any of their dealers, or the dealers representative, that isn't spelled out in their warranty. If you haven't read your warranty booklet you should. GM tries to give themselves an out for using additives, non-GM fluids, etc. You don't want to have to fight GM if you don't have to! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Do not, under any circumstances, give GM an "out" on the warranty on your trucks! Some recommended answers to warranty issues: No, I've never heard of any tuners or programmers!; My mother drives the truck back and forth to the supermarket, I don't know how the tranny got on the ground?; I only run high test diesel!; This thing can tow?; Where did those gauges come from, they weren't here when I brought it in?; and if all else fails "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Jeli,

I'm in the Twin Cities also, and I was at a dealer recently and they told me the very same thing about the Hypertech tuner not voiding to warranty. The "aftermarket" guy even offered to order one for me and spend 10 minutes with me showing me how to use it. He said that because the programming can be returned to stock, it doesn't void the warranty. He said that if I need warranty work done, and a district GM guy had to come and look at it, that it might cause a problem, but he said that this particular dealer would/does look the other way.

from what I have seen and heard, by law aftermarket parts cannot void your warranty, unless they can positively prove that your add-on was the direct cause of the problem. Otherwise they probably won't complain too much.

some things are obvious though..if you buy some kind of chip or ecu and put it on the highest settings, then blow your tranny..they will know you added something because they are built for the stock horsepower.

I would still remove any computer add-on before taking it in for service anyways just as good measure.
